Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a rare 1985 500SL/Euro Mercedes. Car has been stored for the past nine and one half years in my air conditioned garage. Within the past year it has undergone a complete "rolling restoration". Body was excellent with minimal rust which was repaired. Car was painted Signal Red. Interior was totally replaced including new seats, carpets and all interior panels in Palomino, including new sunvisors professionally stitched. Mechanically car is way above average with a strong engine (compression on all cylinders 185psi plus). New fuel pump, warmup regulator, fuel distributer and plugs. Engine runs excellent and does not burn oil. Transmission was serviced and shifts very smoothly. Michelin tires have about 90% tread life remaining. Brakes have been renewed, new pads, fluid changed, etc. New starter motor and battery. Air conditioning blows cold. Cruise control works fine. Car has an excellent removable hard top and a brand new tan soft top. All chrome is in great condition. The pictures speak for themselves. Only minor defects are as follows: - small paint chip in right top corner of trunk opening (photo) - small rock mark on left front headlight lens (photo) - very small paint bubble on rear deck just behind the socket for the lockdown pin for the tops (would not photograph). You have to look hard to even see this. - Odomometer quick working at 121,556 miles. Speedometer still works as do all other instruments. Car had about 121,000 miles when I purchased it in Feb of 2002. Drove the car a little over 500 miles in 2002 before I started the restoration. Car has less than 20 miles since Odom quick working (small drive gear broken, about $150 to repair). The VIN (WDB1070461A014384 does not pull up on Ebay's vehicle check service. It does come up on CarFax and shows a clean history and that I am the third owner of the car which was originally sold here in Texas. Be glad to e-mail a copy of the CarFax report. NADA retail (April 2011, Classic, Collectible, etc.), Low $18,200, Avg $21,600, High 31,300. I think these figures are high and un-realistic in today's market. MY RESERVE IS SET REALISTICALLY LOW ! If you know your early SLs you will appreciate the beauty and performance of the 500SL/Euro. The small bumpers, Euro headlights make the car much more attractive than the 380 or 560SL. Also due to a total lack of emission control stuff the engine is more powerful by about 20% than either of the 380 or 560SLs. I am a retired engineer and mechanic and restoration is my hobby and my passion. On Aug-07-11 at 06:20:32 PDT, seller added the following information: You are bidding on a rare 1985 500SL/Euro Mercedes.
