Vehicle Detail
My wife and I ordered this Rubicon new in the spring of 2003. It runs well, but has developed a shake in the front end when it hits a bump. The “experts” told me it was the track bar, so I replaced it with an OEM bar with a heavy duty bushing. At that time I also replaced the front springs with BDS coils (made in the U.S.A.) because the weight of the winch these past eight years had the original coils sagging a bit. The shake persists, so I am passing the Jeep along with the understanding that further repairs or adjustments will be necessary for it to drive properly. Following are the modifications we have made. The year we bought this, we participated in a Jeep Jamboree (which was a LOT of fun) and won a two inch budget lift as a door prize. The following year I purchased the Warn 8000 pound winch, which has hardly been used (mostly for retrieving other vehicles). I built the back bumper for the sole purpose of using our receiver hitch bicycle rack. It is probably not heavy enough for a real trailer, although I did tow an empty snowmobile trailer once. The air conditioning is ice cold, and everything on this Jeep works like it should. It has a new battery and the tires are two years old and have excellent tread. I went with a street radial, because we don't do the kind of off roading to warrant anything more aggressive. This jeep has not been buried in mud holes, nor have we done any sand. All of our off road experience has been trail riding. It is my daily driver, so it has normal minor paint blemishes, but no dents. The only rust is pictured on the back under the tailgate, and the door handles have rusted. I coated the handles with POR15 which seems to be holding off the rust there. I hang the curtains when they are off, so the scratches and UV fogging are minimal. I'd say the top and Velcro strips are actually pretty nice. The hardtop is hanging in my mothers barn and I could not get a good picture of it. It is also very nice and has a rear window defrost and deep factory window tint. It has a check engine light on for a faulty throttle position sensor, but it has no effect at all on how the Jeep runs so I have chosen to ignore it. This Jeep is very enjoyable with the top down, especially on these warm evenings we have had lately. I can store it for up to a month, if that helps, and can deliver it a reasonable distance for an agreed price. Thanks for looking.
