Vehicle Detail
Arguably one of the most recognizable land yachts on the road today, the 1971 Eldorado was the first “Personal Luxury Convertible” in years, when it debuted in late 1970. Now you can own one for very little money! And before you say it won’t fit in your garage, note that this car is shorter than both the shortest Ford Super Duty pickup and the Shortest Chevy Extended Cab currently produced. Really. This has a 500 cubic inch (or 8.2 litre) motor, with 365 Horsepower and 535 pounds of torque (http://automotivemileposts.com/eldorado/prod1971eldo.html). It's just a huge motor, which still gets an impressive 13+MPG! I had a true dual exhaust put on it, no catalytic converters and shop made mufflers. Has a really nice growl to it. It's a front wheel drive, as were all the Eldorados, which makes for a slightly different driver. I enjoyed the heck out of this car, drove it across country in 2008 with my son, but now it's time to let it go. Got the wife a different convertible, so we don't need 2. The car isn't perfect, and definitely does need some work, but the bones are good. I replaced the motor in 2008 from another Eldorado with supposedly 60K on it. I don't know for sure, but I do know that this car runs great. The info below I "borrowed" from the internet, and it will give you an idea of what the car is. 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Production Numbers/Specifications PRODUCTION NUMBERS INTRODUCTION DATE: September 29, 1970 TOTAL PRODUCTION: 27,368 (Eldorado only) 1971 Cadillac Production for rear drive models TOP LINE: BODY CODE/MODEL NAME/BASE PRICE BOTTOM LINE: WEIGHT/PRODUCTION 71-693 69347H Fleetwood Eldorado Coupe $7,383 Weight: 4650 Built: 20,568 71-693 69367E Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible $7,751 Weight: 4690 Built: 6,800 SPECIFICATIONS ENGINE CODE ENGINE DETAILS -- Displacement: 8.2 Litres, V-8 (500 CID) Bore and Stroke: 4.30 x 4.304 Compression Ratio: 8.5 to 1 Gross Horsepower: 365 @ 4400 rpm SAE Net Horsepower: 235 @ 3800 rpm Torque: 535 ft.-lbs. @ 2800 rpm SAE Net Torque: 410 @ 2400 rpm Carburetor: Rochester Quadrajet 4MV TRANSMISSION CODE TRANSMISSION DESCRIPTION -- Turbo Hydra-Matic REAR AXLE CODE FINAL DRIVE RATIO N/A 3.07 to 1 TIRE SIZE BRAKES L78-15 Bias-belted, fiberglass, blackwall Power with self-adjusting feature Front: Disc Rear: Composite finned drum WHEELBASE DIMENSIONS 126.3 inches Front Tread: 63.66" Rear Tread: 63.59" Length: 221.6" Width: 79.8" Height: 54.2" Trunk: STEERING CAPACITIES Variable-ratio power steering Overall ratio: 16.1 to 1 Turning angle: 38.5 degrees Fuel Tank: 27 gallons Cooling System: 21¾ Qts.
