Here's the story of this great little car : sold to the one & only original owner by Tara BMW in Poughkeepsie,NY on 4-23-1985 and delivered with 8 miles on the odometer. Owner special ordered this car to his specs because there were none like it available on the East coast of the USA as equipped. He only wanted it with the very rare & hard to find Recaro multi-adjustable cloth seats,power sunroof,a/c,alloy wheels,limited slip differential,cruise control and trip computer. A true Bimmer enthusiast to the core!! Include with the sale of this vehicle are : the original sales invoice totaling $21,307.21 less his $300 deposit and the $1500 trade allowance for his 1979 Honda Prelude;the delivery receipt dated 4-23-1985;odometer statements for his trade in & this car;the selling deaaler new vehicle certification for emission control equipment;the BMW factory sales brouchure/accessories & gift catalogs and color/upholstery selections chart and the extra cost BMW Quality Continuation vehicle service contract declaration plan dated 7-06-1987 for which he paid $995 to extend his free servicing until 4-23-1992 or up to 75,000 miles. All books,manuals and original keys are present too!! But wait it gets even better : also included is EVERY service/repair receipt starting at 1914 miles on 4-23-1985 at the selling BMW dealer through the last and current NY State inspection on 3-12-2011 at 229,768 miles which it passed with flying colors. Additionally the latest oil service was completed at that time. The owner then drove car for a period of time whereupon he reluctantly decided to part company with his baby after purchasing yet another pre-owned BMW at my dealership. Now for the physical description of this vehicle : as is so typical with cars built these years from every manufacturer the upper surfaces of the hood/roof and trunk lid have peeling of the factory original clear coat finish ( base coat underneath is original too). The body above/below and inside is rust free as the car spent the majority of its life garaged until last year whereupon most of the clearcoat issues manifested themselves. There are no issues mechanically with the engine which starts up without fuss/stumbling/smoking or noise other than what a vintage inline 2.7L BMW sounds like to begin with;the transmission shifts fine except for a VERY MINOR gear whine when at operating temp while changing/engaging gears;the shifter/linkage is vague/rubbery unless you are used to them and easily remedied with new upgraded bushings. The limited slip diff is fully functioning and noise/whine free. There is a power steering hose leak that requires attention but I'm not sure which hose is the culprit. The service history notes the same condition previously repaired by replacing and tightening a hose clamp. The alloy wheels are in very good condition with 4 new 205/60-14 Nankang tires installed on 10-31-2009 at 223,878 miles. Also a complete cat back exhaust system was installed on 3-15-2010 at 226,468 miles. Lastly the Recaro seats are in good condition excepting wear/seam separation on the bottom of the drivers seat. The front passenger seat has ridiculously minor wear in the middle of the bottom cushion. The original Pirelli P6 spare tire has NEVER been on the ground and still has the "talcum powder" coating around the outside perimeter. Tire changing equipment is complete as is the trunk mounted tool kit with ALL the tools present. How rare is it that a car with this pedigree from new becomes available and also still being a one owner car from new? I believe we all know the answer.
