Vehicle Detail
1970 MGB/GT Restoration Project 1.8L 4 cylinder. Dual carb. 4 Speed. LH type Electric Overdrive in 3rd and 4th. Steel Wheels. 360,000 miles. I bought this car in March of 1977 and it had 99k showing on the odometer. In 2001 when I took it off the road due to failing the emmisions test here in NJ. At that time it had ticked over the the odometer 3 times. In 1993, with 240,000 miles on it, I had the engine, transmission, overdrive and differential completely gone through. The High Compression pistons (8.75:1) were replaced with +.020 standard compression (8.0:1). The bearings went to +.010 and the Cam was replaced (stock lift). The rearsuspension was converted from the Armstrong Knee action shocks to the tube type with a bolt in Moss Motors conversion kit. (I still have the originals and the suspension could be put back to original easily.) This car was my daily drive until 2001 and with a few exceptions (coff coff..LUCAS, the Prince of Darkness) it was completely dependable. The bad news is the car has not been driven since. When it failed inspection and could not be re-registered. I had a grand plan to do a frame-off restoration. Unfortunatly, life got in the way. So now we're selling the house so the car has to go. The last time I started the engine was in spring of 2005 to move it from the driveway to the side of the garage when I was ticketed for having an unregistered vehicle in my driveway. When I move it I found the freeze plugs had pressed out and will need replaced. I hooked up jumper cables and cranked the engine over half a turn to ensure the engine was not siezed up but I didn't want to try to start it with 10 year old oil in crankcase. Since the engine has not been run in nearly 7 years I'm sure the carbs will need a good solvent bath. The engine probably needs rebuilt or at least a valve job at the minimum, the rear suspension will need new springs, the body has some pretty serious rust in places. The rocker panels and floorboards will definately need replaced.I've replaced the rear tire that is flat in the pictures. This car is a restoration project and will need to be towed or trailered. Buyer is responsible for pickup/shipment of the car. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll answer as well as I can. Thanks for looking.
