Vehicle Detail
Description You are looking at a nice fairly original 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with loads of NOS trim that has been garage stored for a fairly long time. Condition Details: This car appears to have started off life as a metallic green 1970 Mach 1 fastback. The engine codes out as a 351 Windsor 2 bbl, which could have been in a Mach 1, and the vin as the 05 code, which is a Mach 1 sport roof. It was restored in the early 80s by the current local owner and his dad. They painstakingly ordered all the parts at the local Ford dealer when you still could order everything. This includes the grill, bumpers, rear valence, marker and tail light assemblies, and many, many other parts. Let us be clear, this was before all the foreign parts were produced, and were ordered directly from the Ford dealer parts department in the early 80s. The door tag appears to be from a 1969 fastback and does not match the rest of the car. The owner is looking for the original door trim tag and thinks he might have it somewhere. Mechanically, the engine needed to be bored 60 over, so they ordered the correct 351 Windsor engine from the Ford dealer as well which has very low miles and runs extremely well when warmed up. It has a competition cam, and a Holley 780 carb. It shifts, starts and stops well. The seat belts are not original, and the clock does not work. The lights and directional signals appear functional. The heater core is out of the car, but the owner has a new one in the garage. He just never took the time to install it. Cosmetically, it is in great shape for the year of automobile but does have it's issues. Much of the exterior sheet metal are southern, and a repaint years and they painted the car in lacquer without removing some of the trim and gaskets. Scroll down and view all 200 + photos. The car that has not been hit that we can see, but the body and floor pans have had some rust issues over the years that were repaired and undercoated. We have no way to know how well the work was done, but again know the doors and fenders are southern. We have documented the car with the many, many photos. It runs and drives well and would be a great driver for the malt shop or local car show. This is the real deal pinnacle 1970 Mach One. What does the car need? While it runs well, it runs a bit rough when cold as there is no choke. The seats and door panels should be recovered or repaired as they are original. The glass is good and appears original. It probably could use a tune up and general check over as it has sat for 5-10 years, but ran and drove well during our photo shoot. It could be completely restored but in our opinion, it is too nice to do that, and it is driver quality as it is. These cars are getting really hard to find, especially with all the re-creations, tributes and clones out there. Best of all, there is NO reserve. We will let the market determine the value of this classic. Best of luck in the auction.
