Vehicle Detail
We are moving overseas and selling our two vehicles. The first one is Honda Accord 1996 LX, 2.2l, 4 cylinders, with ~154,000 miles that served us well for 4 years. The second one, Chevy Lumina, will be listed later. This car was purchased in 2007 after visiting 8 or 9 other sellers I found on the Craigslist. The main reason for buying this very car was that it fully corresponded to its description. I’d like to keep this tradition and tell everything I know about this car. Please, read the text below carefully and check the pictures. I can also send full-size images for detailed inspection since e-bay usually shrinks them and changes the compression. You are more than welcome to come and inspect the vehicle before bidding. The car was used for daily commute. The first year it was mostly highway (Silver Spring - DC), the other three years it was used in a mixed mode (Alexandria - Georgetown). Add approximately 10 trips to Virginia Beach and you’ll get a complete picture of usage of this car. Highway mileage is great, ~30mpg, city mileage is about 20mpg. You can read what other people say about Honda Accords 1996 here: http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/honda/accord/1996/. Regular maintenance was performed at Goddard Auto Tech Center (http://mscweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/gatc/). I used only Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic oil and either Purolator or Mobil 1 filters. Transmission fluid and filter were replaced about 30Kmiles ago. Timing and serpentine belts were replaced by previous owner just before we purchased it. This car had several issues typical for this generation of Honda Accords. All these issues were fixed: 1) weak power window regulators. The problem is in the friction in rubber railings that leads to electric motor failure. Driver’s window power assembly and the railings were replaced. 2) rusting of the catalytic converter thermal shield (thin metal cover) that results in rattling noise. Fixed.3) clear coat flaking. Lots of dark color painted (green, blue, black) Hondas and Toyotas made in 90-s and early 2000s are prone to that. The only way to fix this problem is a complete removal of the clear coat and repainting the whole car. This was done in September 2010 (except for the bumpers and mirror housings). The paint is not of a showroom quality and some “orange peel” can be seen at a certain angle in a sunny day (check the pictures, I managed to catch it). However, it’s OK for day-to-day usage and it's much better than it used to be (I have pictures taken just before re-painting). There are 4 layers of clear coat on top of 3 layers of base paint (Scherwin-Williams materials were used) and after one year it shows no signs of fading or flaking. Besides that I replaced the lower oxygen sensor, the resonator + muffler, and steering rod dust cover in 2008. I can't remember anything else. The car was running strong all these years and I hope it will keep going for years and tens of thousands miles (our second car, Chevy Lumina is approaching 200 Kmiles and Hondas are not worse :) ). As one can see in the report the car was involved in an accident in 2005, before we purchased it. It was also involved in a couple of parking lot accidents not listed here but I can assure you that all the accidents were minor ones. I can send you the pictures taken right after each of the accidents and adjuster evaluation reports to confirm that no frame damage was involved (see, for example, scratches on the bumpers pictures). As one can see, the reflection in the lower parts of both righ-hand side doors is slighlty uneven, indicating the non-mirror-finish surface but there were no serious damages. All the doors, hood, and trunk lid open and close and sit where they should, and so on. The tires were replaced in 2008 and still have good tread. There’s no uneven wear whatsoever. Plastic hubcaps do have some scratches that don't affect anything. Since we live in Virginia the car had to pass regular safety and emission inspections and it used to pass it with flying colors. There are no fluids leaking, the exhaust is clean, no white/black smoke, Check Engine light is OFF. One can watch a short video showing the car running down and up the hill and the engine idling here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l74b9V89nzo The car has a good Pioneer CD/MP3 player. The rear seat is foldable making the trunk space larger if needed. The battery is 2 months old. Air conditioning works well and all the systems perform as they should. We don't smoke/don't have pets and the car was kept clean all the time we had it. The car comes with two original keys, two spare keys and two remote controls. Please, e-mail me for more information. P.S. Dear “money order” buyers and other scammers: please, don’t even try to “buy” this car and let good people get a reasonably priced vehicle. On Jul-13-11 at 20:03:14 PDT, seller added the following information: here's the link to our second car, Chevy Lumina, 3.1l, 160 hp, 197500 miles and running:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-cylinder-160HP-Lumina-/290587208212?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43a858ea14#ht_1694wt_1165
