Vehicle Detail
This is a 1989 Mustang hatchback with the 5.0L V8 package. It has the GT interior option. I purchased the car as the 2nd owner from Summit Ford in Toronto ON (Canada) in July ’93, with 81,000 kilometers on the odometer. I have owned the car since then (18 years!), but have not driven the car regularly since 2005 when I moved away from Toronto. The car is has been stored in my father’s single car garage in Toronto since then. The car has 256,000 km on the odometer, which is approx 160,000 mi., as shown in the pictures. I have a long history with the car, but I am living in the US (Pennsylvania) now and it is time for me to part ways with it (and free up my father’s garage). The car starts up beautifully and runs nicely, but will at minimum need the brake lines bled and filled before it is safe to drive. It has been sitting for quite a while, and has only been moved in and out of the garage over the last couple of years. Last time I moved it the brakes were really soft, so for safety reasons the car should be towed to a shop to get them looked at before driving it anywhere. The engine runs well, and still has lots of power. The transmission is nice and tight, and the clutch grabs like it should. There is a custom exhaust installed which gives the car a deep throaty sound that is characteristic of these Mustangs. Other mechanical issues that should be dealt with include small leaks around the transmission and differential yolks. The transmission cross member (a bracket that supports the back of the tranny) is corroded and should be replaced. I haven't actually driven the car further than the driveway in a long time, so it should obviously get a thorough inspection before it is used for any long trip. The car is over 20 years old now, and was driven in winters while I had it. Toronto uses lots of salt on their roads, so this takes a toll on cars. I planned to keep the car for sentimental reasons, so I did a lot of rust repair to the body and floors from 2003-2004. It was repainted in the factory red base/clear and I did this work myself… the car looks respectable as you can see in the photos – but it is certainly not perfect… there are a couple of runs etc. As such, this is certainly no show car. The car was sealed up tight though, and I drove it for a year following the rust repairs. The interior is in pretty good shape for an ’89 that was a daily driver – no rips or tears… just normal/average signs of wear. There is presently no stereo in the car, though the hookups are intact. The articulating chrome map light is also missing… kept meaning to buy a new one but never got around to it. The car never had a/c. With a little work the car could be used as a fun driver, or it could provide a load of excellent parts for a project car. I guess that would be up to the buyer. I am starting the auction at $200.00 with no reserve, and I will let you guys determine what it is worth. I had listed and sold the car on EBay once previously, and had a bad experience - the buyer was located in Arkansas and didn’t realize that he would need a passport to enter Canada to pick up the car - or at least that was his story. I have had several other good experiences on Ebay too though, so I have decided to try EBay once more before selling the car locally. Zero or negative feedback bidders, please contact me before bidding, otherwise I will have to cancel your bids. Again, please note that the car will need to be picked up at my father’s house in Toronto (Scarborough), Canada. I am living in the US now, and so my father will hand over the ownership (already endorsed) and keys to the buyer. I am pleased to sell to either US or Canadian buyers and will accept either currency at par… but those south of the border, please be aware that you do need a passport to enter/exit Canada!Local buyers can feel free to contact me to arrange to take a look at the car before bidding if you'd like. If you have any questions about the car or the auction – please send me a message. Good luck guys, and thanks for looking.
