Vehicle Detail
Above photo was taken in 1983 with second owner, Brian in Hermosa Beach, California Up for auction at 3 Days With No Reserve - Sold to the Highest Bidder._____________________________________________This is an Rare & Original 1968 Pontiac Firebird Factory 400 Convertible. Documented thru Pontiac Historical Service as the real deal. It was sold new at Jim White Pontiac in Santa Monica, California. In the mid 70's, the second owner purchased this Firebird from the original owner in Hermosa Beach, California. Remains only to be owned by two owners. The original color combination is April Gold with a Black Top & Black standard interior.Factory Options include: Hydra Matic -Power Top - Power Steering - Am-Fm w/ Rear Antenna - Deluxe Steering Wheel Console - Soft Ray Glass Windshield - Custom Seat Belts - Conventional Space Saver - Rally II Wheels - F70x14 Red line Wide Ovals Was off the road since 1994, invisible sitting behind the owner's home gate. A true California Bird that was sold new & lived it's entire life in Southern California. It does have the older Blue California plates. It was repainted once Red by the 2nd owner in the early 80's. Remains all of it's original panels & undercarriage. Being a California car, you would only expect a good body. Floors are original & are in clean shape. Frame structure is original/clean as well. Passenger side lower corner quarter has a small rust hole about a 3 inches. Inner well right behind looks to be fine. Has normal dings and a small bruise on the passenger fender. The original 400 hood & nose is solid. Inside the quarter jambs, inner rockers & Inner Corner of the doors are clean. The engine compartment firewall looks be original and unrestored. Mostly on every panel of the body, you can see the Red paint chipping showing the original April God underneath it. Original trim & chrome remains still attach. Trunk pan remains unrestored. Original trunk spatter and taillight panel. Trunk pan has the normal moisture rust from the factory trunk rubber mat + very tiny pinholes. Overall, body is original with the exception of the one 30 years old repaint. The interior is complete. Recently, I added a brand new OEM Black convertible top, well liner, top pads, plastic rear window & carpet. Still has all the custom seat belts in place. The trim, console, gauges steering wheel, moldings are original. As you can see in the photos below, it's all there but shows it's wear. All the glass looks to be original including the Soft Ray windshield. The trunk still has the original space saver / jack set up.Now the drive train. Service Record & Smog inspection from July of 90' showing at that time the Mileage was 50,924. As of right now, mileage is 52,230. In 21 years, it has been driven less then 1,306 miles. Keep in mind, it was sitting since 1994. Has a non matching 400 "YB" V8. Owner says it came out of a 69' FB, cant guarantee. Still wearing the original chrome air cleaner, rocker covers & oil cap. Decoded the Rochester Q-Jet carburetor "7028276" & it is coming back as a 68' 400 Ram Air I Auto. The intake manifold "9790140" is coming back as a 68' 350/400 (same as ram air). Appears to be the original 3 speed automatic transmission & rear end. It was last running in 94'. To get it back on the road again, a few things must of been done. I took it over to N&V Carburetor specialist to it worked on. Here is a list of the procedure -Drain All fluids & old gasoline Disassemble the Q-Jet Blow out the fuel linesNew spark plugs New cap & RotorNew Wires New Points New CoilNew Master Cylinder Rebuilt The Q-JetNewer battery Newer set of Firestone Tires Add all new fluids & fuel filter Started right up & I let it ran for about 20 minutes. Drove it around town low/high speeds. Transmission shifts just fine into all gears. It brake & stop but will need some brake work to make it perfect. I had a electric specialist check all the lights and they seem to work. Still has T3 headlights. The convertible top was not down in over 15 years. I sprayed plenty of wd-40 on the frame joints and let it sit before adding the new top. It needed some fluid but the power top works just fine now. Dual exhaust looks old but they work. Overall, its in running/driving condition. The motor does not look like it was rebuilt. Keep in mind, this is a unrestored 68' Firebird. The frame has never came off the body & it's not perfect in any way. Mileage I'm pretty sure has turned over once, can't prove it. Looks to have had smog emissions at one time, no longer there. It's just a original Big Block Firebird. Rare to see factory 400 California Convertible in this time period. My personal opinion, I would cruise it around in it's current condition. Has plenty of patina that can not be duplicated. Sure you can restore but it wont stand out like it does now. Keep in mind, it's unrestored & I try to be as honest as I can. I uploaded over 150 photos alone of detail for you to see it as close as you can. A good candidate to restore as it's complete. Clear California pink slip in hand - PHS Documents - Original owner's manual - Older registration from 93' - Older Insurance card from 90' - Service Record/Smog Inspection 90' -____________________ Conclusion & Terms _________________________I have set my auction at 3 Days With No Reserve, so please only serious bidding.
