You are looking at a very RARE 1981 Honda CR250R. This was a bike with many firsts for Honda. It was the first production water cooled motocross for Honda. First production aluminum swing arm, and the all new rising rate single shock Pro Link rear suspension. Up front it had the first double leading shoe brake on a CR and the “very large” for the time 41mm air assist forks. This bike is race ready as it sits, I bored the cylinder two seasons ago, replaced the reeds and added a 10mm reed spacer to boost low end. Also the cylinder was ported by ACE racing engines power was shifted to more mid range and upper end however the power delivery is still very smooth. New clutch plates and springs were added, along with a new chain and front sprocket. The fork seals were replaced two years ago and 20w Bel Ray oil was added. The rear shock was serviced this year and charged with nitrogen. The seat cover was just replaced with a correct reproduction cover. The front wheel has crack in it and is shown in the photo's it will need repaired or replaced. The bike still retains the odd shaped front number plate which was designed to direct air to the two high mounted radiators, these plates are rare since most were removed in favor of the standard style plate. It also retains the factory shifter with the rubber tendon which came from the works bikes of the time. The front and rear fenders were replaced when I bought this bike back in 1999 they are for a 2000 CR250R. They are not cracked however the top layer is becoming a little chalky. The radiator shrouds are the ones it left the factory with. The bike also has a DG National series pipe and silencer. The 1981 CR250's were known to have the swing arm crack above the axle on the right side. This bike was no exception, so I did what others have done before me and replaced it with the swing arm and wheel from a 1982 CR250. However after replacing it I found a very nice 81 swing arm that was professionally gusseted in the trouble areas so I bought it. This swing arm comes with the bike along with the stock rear rim, an extra set of cases and a cylinder and head. The bike also has new Honda brake and clutch cables. The bike starts runs and shifts great and as mentioned before is race ready. You would be hard pressed to buy and build a bike like this for the reserve I am asking. The bike will come with a Missouri form 1957 bill of sale. All of the before mentioned work was done by me, I am the service manager at Kirksville Honda.
