Vehicle Detail

1954 Studebaker Commander Coupe Mild Resto Rod 312 cu.in, high performance Studebaker engine, 4 speed transmission. Be sure and follow the more pictures link at the end of this write up. As some of you may know, I find nice Studebakers around the country, fix them up, and find new homes for them on ebay. In this case, I'm listing this beauty for Pat, a Studebaker collector and friend in Los Angeles and any questions should be addressed to him at the number below. This car, combines the beauty of the world renowned styling of the 53-54 coupes with performance, safety, and interior upgrades. Starting with a never in a accident, straight, rust free west coast car, Pat and the previous owner spent a small fortune on upgrades described below. Although the highly collectable 53 and 54 coupes are nearly identical in styling, the 54 has a heavier frame and better brakes. BTW, this 54 has been upgraded to the even better, late GT Hawk brakes. Questions ? Ask Pat at Ph: 562-631-9874 Reupholstered, reclining GT Hawk buckets seats were installed along with a GT Hawk dash featuring Stewart Warner gauges, including a vacuum gauge and tach. The headliner and windlass are perfect, the carpets are brand new, and seat belts were added. A GT Hawk steering wheel and column were added and of course the gages and radio were converted to work with the upgraded 12 volt system. (As you can see, the gauges all work perfectly) A late, Studebaker 289 cu.in. block was rebuilt and modified by a pro builder less than 3000 miles ago, a build that would cost over well over $5000 today. The block was bored and sleeved .140 over, increasing displacement to 312 cu.in with new Ross pistons, Perfect Circle rings and Clevite bearings. The engine was built to handle a potential supercharger upgrade so Cunningham Racing rods were installed. ($1800 a set alone), and the engine was balanced as was the new aluminum flywheel. The heads got the full treatment with bigger Chevy valves with hardened seats and HD springs, ARP head studs with copper head gaskets. (9.7-1 compression) A Isky ST 5 cam was installed with a new, aluminum timing gear. Pat added a rev limiter. and H2O/Alcohol injection. The fuel system features a Edelbrock 600 carb on aluminum manifold, electric fuel pump w/ oil press safety cutoff switch and H2O/Alcohol injection. Exhaust is handled by Avanti R3 cast iron headers into 2 1/4 duals w/Flowmasters. A electric fan for aux cooling was added. The driveline was upgraded with a Hurst equipped 4 speed, and the Twin Traction 3:54 rear received a upgrade to flanged axles. The ignition system has been upgraded, the battery was relocated to the trunk and charging is handled by a modern, high output alternator. Although the car is silly fast, it's perfectly happy being used as a daily driver. The paint is a few years old and has a few nicks and such, I'd call it a "five footer", it looks perfect from five feet. Both the paint and chrome is too nice to need a redo unless you want to build a trailer queen. If I were the new new owner and looking for things to do, I might add some retro mag wheels, maybe AC, and/or a supercharger. Pat's reserve is under even the cost of the just the improvements. The car needs nothing to enjoy as is, and is a currently registered driver. BTW, a short note to the street rodders, if you intend to swap in a big hemi or the like, the Studebaker engine in the car should bring 5K or so, not that it needs more power. (Mileage listed is since the new speedo was added, actual is well under 100,000) More and bigger pictures More info on the 53-64 Coupes Other cars I've found homes for Just some examples of my 100% positive feedback on car sales.
