Vehicle Detail

1976 Toyota LandCruiser FJ40 I own a FJ40 restoration business, I restored this vehicle to be a functional daily driver and off-road capable vehicle. I bought this FJ out of California where it lived its whole life and brought it to what you see today. It started out 99% rust free, the picture of it blue is how I got it. This restoration has just over 1000 miles on it, recently completed. I try to start with 1976+ model years due to their stock 4 speed, disc brakes, better doors and overall ergonomics. This truck is turn-key everything is new or refurbished. I built this to drive and be reliable as any vintage vehicle can be, it was not built to be a museum piece. I’ve built countless mint stock $75,000 FJ40’s, the economy does not dictate that now, so here is a version most people can afford. I’ve gone through every wire, component and switch to make sure this truck is reliable. I strive to get them as turn-key as possible but this is still a vintage vehicle, they always need tinkering from time to time, that is part of the fun. I will be driving this FJ40 in the Richland WA car show (Cool Desert Nights) Friday the 24th and in the show the 25th. No for sale sign on it. Copy and Paste the Photobucket link below for 86 pictures of this truck before, during and after. http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae11/fj40man79/1976%20Camo%20FJ40%20July%202011/ Mechanical I reset the odometer at 0 when I completed the resto, the clock was at 67k when I did that, have no idea if that is original or not, no way to tell. I built a nice 300 horse power Chevy 327, runs absolutely perfect. 4 barrel edelbrock carburetor, HEI ignition, ram-horn exhaust (don’t leak like headers) true dual exhaust with quiet mufflers. The trans and case are rebuilt, the axles are rebuilt, all new brakes and bearings. I installed a nice power steering setup (Saginaw) with a new radiator and nice electric fan. Runs and stays cool in the 95 degree heat here. 34/10.5/15 Super Swamper tires with 95% tread on aluminum wheels. Nice 3 inch Rancho lift kit, with steering stabilizer. The gauges all work well, I added a tach. With the 34 in tires, 4 speed and stock 4.11 gearing it runs down the highway well at 70mph. Optima red top battery. Body This FJ40 began it’s restoration 99% rust free which is almost unheard of. These trucks are prone to rust, most need extensive repair. The panels are all original to this vehicle, no signs of any accidents or off-road abuse. This truck needed very little body work, no globs of bondo anywhere. The most important thing on buying any FJ40 is how much rust does it have. I look at 20 supposed rust free vehicles to find only 1-2 to buy that are rust free. These only come from the western dry states, and they must spend most of their life stored inside. The inside of the tub, body and firewall are painted PPG semi-gloss black (actually called rat rod black). The exterior was given a base coat rat rod black, then a 3D camo PPG paint was applied. Covered with 4 coats of PPG clear (usually do 3 coats, but it will stay intact better if you brush dive it with 4 coats). The fiberglass lid and bezel are painted PPG brilliant white, it really pops. The paint is the best camo I’ve ever seen, the airbrush artistic value is a sight to see. I’ve done 10 paint jobs this way, more compliments on this than the super high end show car jobs. In person, it truly looks 3D, I only do these on vehicles I sell, I won’t do them for the public (get asked all the time). I made brackets for the front seats to accommodate a tall person. Stock seats are only good to a 5ft9 person. These seats will go as far back as allowed, if your over 6ft you will enjoy that. The aftermarket bucket seats are mint, I put camo seat covers over them to complete the theme of the vehicle. A nice rear bench seat is installed. I installed new light guards front and rear. Decent tow package with trailer wiring as well. The entire undercarriage is coated with POR-15, a must for east coast buyers, much better than the factory coating. New door seals throughout. And the best part…..a decommissioned WWII grenade gear shift lever! In closing, I have a ton of money and time invested in this quality build. Cost to build this in my shop for any customer would be 40k counting in the good core 10k FJ to start with. This build went way over budget, but came out really nice. If you are looking for one of the nicest FJ’s out there but don’t want to spend huge dollars for a perfect one this is for you. If you are nit-picky and want perfection on everything, a trailer queen type vehicle, I can build you one, break out your check book J. I’ve sold FJ40’s sight unseen for 7 years on eBay with 100% satisfaction, I want to keep it that way, if you have questions please ask, I’ll be straight with you, please be the same with me. Thanks! Make sure to check out the photo bucket links to see how this resto went. Buy it done, know what your going to pay and enjoy it now. I’m open to any 3rd party inspection during the auction as being in the vintage auto business I know everyone‘s expectations are different. I own Auto Appraisals and Pre-Buy Inspections, so don’t call that business when looking in the phone book. I have a clear clean WA state title in hand for this vehicle. I find you the shipper, you just pay them directly, its and easy process. $600-1300 depending on shipping lanes and location. $1000 non-refundable deposit due within 24 hours closed auction (no exceptions) remainder due cash in person, bank to bank wire, cashiers check within 7 days closed auction. I overnight you the title once the funds are cleared. Vehicle and fuel charges must be paid before it leaves my property. Huge positive response on this vehicle and particularly the paint job at the cruiser and car show this past weekend. Consensus is the pictures do not do it justice, must see in person.
