Vehicle Detail
Up for Auction is a 1962 Jaguar MK II 3.8 Liter, automatic. I received this car from one of my relative's estates. I had intention of one day restoring it to it's full capacity, however like so many other things in life, it takes time, and right now, I just can't find it. Before I give you the details of what I know about the car, I want to make it clear this car does not run and will need a total restoration. It will make a great project as it is complete and it's in solid shape. Please don't ask if it drives or what does it need, as I don't really know. I have had the car in my possession for a while, however I have really only spent 2 weekends on it. Below are my observations of the car. This car was parked several years ago in a warehouse in California and has been a California car all it's life. With that, the only major rust I can find is the exhaust (which will need to be replaced). There isn't any major rust on the car except surface rust where the paint has chipped off. You can see it in the pictures. The underside has only surface rust as well. Car still has originally black plate, however when I titled it in my name DMV gave me a new plate. Yes I do have the title and it's clear. The body of the car is very straight for being 48 years old. It will need to be repainted of course as I believe it's the original paint on it. The body issues are someone pryed open the trunk and bent it up, but should be repairable. There is a small dent on the rear quarter that can be popped out. Also the rear bumper has a dent in it and is off the car, probably do to this reason (you can see the bumper in the picture with the extra parts). To get easy access to the engine compartment, I removed the hood. The hood is in good shape and it has the leeping jaguar emblem in tack. I have just placed the hood back on so you can see it in the picture. When the car is sold, I'll bolt it back on. Not knowing how long the car had been sitting, I pulled the radiator and fan to access the nut on the main pulley, so I can rotate the engine by hand. The engine did move freely. I bought a new battery, new coil, wire set, plugs and it cranks over. I shot a few sprays of starting fluid in the carbs and it starts for just a few seconds. There was a new fuel pump which hadn't been installed, so I installed it thinking it might be a easy fix. The line from the tank is clogged as I can't get any fuel to come up. I did suck out all the old gas and put new in. I believe there is a filter in the tank, so I guess that could be clogged. I just haven't had the time to drop the tank and figure it out. Once again this is just my opinion and might be something else. Not sure about the transmission, but the fluid looks fresh. No burn smell. The linkage has an issue as is doesn't lock in park. Not sure whats wrong there. Brakes and suspension unknown. Brakes obivisously don't work after sitting and the pedel goes to the floor. The emergency brake does work. The interior of the car needs to be redone. The front seats have a seat cover over the original leather which is cracked, just as the back seat. The carpet fair and the door panels are in ok shape. The wood on the dash and on the doors will need to be reveneered, but it's all there. The headliner is in good shape as well as the wood on the headliner. The tires are cracked and will need to be replaced, they do hold air. The wire wheels have chrome pits on them and should be redipped and retrued. The glass is ok. All the windows roll up and down smoothly. The chrome depends if this will be a show car or not. It has pits in it. I buffed out a few pieces and I would say the are ok for a daily driver, but definitately not for a show car. I also have a extra front grill which is in better shape than the one on it now. Taillight chrome should be replaced as they are pitted the worst. Electrical - Head lights work, interior lights work, turn signals work (most of the time). Needs a rear tail light lens. Original Jack in trunk. If you are looking at this ad, you probably know these cars are getting harder and harder to come by. Restored ones are $30,000 and up, daily drivers are in the teens, plus $$$. I probably can just park this in my garage and 20 years it will be worth what the XK120's are worth today, however I need the space for other cars. My loss is your gain, why invest your money in a bank gaining 1% interest when you can buy this and drive your investment. Anyway, car is located in Riverside, California. It will need to be towed, buyers responsibility. Car is sold AS/IS Where is and no warranty implied. Payment is Paypal or Cash. No checks, no money orders, no overpayment games/scams, I have seen it all, save it for someone else. Oversea's buyers welcome, but payment will need to be cashed first. I reserve the right to cancel the auction at anytime, as the car is advertised locally. Good Luck and thanks for looking!
