1981 Delorean that was bought recently from a guy who had it in storage for the last five years. I bought in in hopes of making it a daily driver delorean and taking it to shows on the weekend. the car was not running when i purchase it and i had to get it towed to a shop to get it running. What Has Been done: Car Does run and drives. The fuel system was taken apart and cleaned and a new fuel accumulator, in tank filter, and fuel filter were put on. does come with a new fuel pump that was in the car when i bought it (condition unknown on how well it works). brand new window regulators put in, still needs new window switches though. Reasons car is a project: 1. hail damage - car was outside when the tornados came through the south and knoxville got hit with hail. the car had blankets and car cover on it when the hail came, that why it wasnt as bad as other cars in knoxville (pics below and i have more available if you want them sent to email). 2. possible head gasket needs replacing. the only reason i mention this is cause i was on dmctalk and someone mentioned that if it has a blown exhaust manifold and the plastic grate in the oil fill then i could have been overheaded and may need new head gasket. dmc houston says this can be true but not neccesarily, just wanted to mention that. i have driven the car long enough for it to get to running temp, car was smoking dont know if it was coolant or oil. i did put marvel mystery oil in cylinders before starting car for the first time to free up rings. i did spill oil on engine when doing this and it could be possible left over from my spill. 3. frame needs to be repaired for rust. the crumble tube either needs to be replaced or if someone knows how to fix it and strengthen it then that needs to be done. master cylinder leaked and ate up the opoxy coating on the frame around gas tank area and support behind crumble tube, also support infront of engine needs replacing too. the body guy i talked to say he could cut those bad pieces out make new ones a re-weld the new ones in, then use POR-15 to recoat frame. other issuse with the car: interior needs work, dash, knee pad, driver seat has small holes where leather pulled. battery spilt years ago and ate up carpet behind passenger seat (not visible when seat is in normal driving position). need to look over brakes before driving on the road. rear tires were new years ago still look good but probably have flat spots on them where sitting so long. front tires need to be replace before driving on the road, dry cracking. facias need to be repainted, the paint is cracking in the front and fading in the rear. doors need new lift pistons to hold them up. electrical issues, gauges dont work and drivers door lights dont turn on, also no brake lights. needs relay updates done and other normal updates recommended by DMC and other delorean owners. this will be a good daily driver delorean for someone who knows how to work on cars. the dents on the car are really only noticible closer than 7ft and looking at it at the right angles. car has to be trailered when picked up. I have plenty of pics of the car through out the few months I owned it.
