Vehicle Detail
1955 Porsche Speedster VIN# 80861 Description and statement from the owner: This stunning, completely restored concourse winning Pre A Speedster is number 600 of approximately 1,700 speedsters produced in 1955. This car sports it’s original Reutter color of silver with black leatherette interior, USA speedometer and sealed beam headlights listed as the only options. The motor case is the correct series, backed by the standard 4 speed transaxle. The paint is show winning and an Echelon coating was applied to the entire exterior ($1,000.00 option). The car has perfect gaps, great pans, battery box, and no rust at all. This car has always been stored in a humidity controlled environment. The motor has been upgraded to 1720 CC and sports the more powerful and reliable Solex twin throat 40mm carburetors. The transmission has been upgraded with a taller 4th gear, delivering easy highway cruising at 80+mph. The car has no leaks at all. Chrome rims and correct baby moon hubcaps hold Michelin period radials. The car presents very well and drives perfectly. This Speedster is a wonderful vintage car for events such as the Copperstate 1000 or The Colorado Grand. In 2004, I heard about this amazing speedster that Klub Sport in Florida had for sale. Klub Sport is one of the most respected restoration & race, vintage Porsche shops in the world, as their customer cars are always flawless and reliable. My dream car was always the pre a speedster, silver with black, as that is the most classic Porsche color combination. I talked to Phil Bagley from Klub Sport and he assured me that this indeed was one of his top customer's. And his best restored cars, freshly done, all mechanicals in perfect order, bare metal paint, etc. As nice as you can find anywhere except for full trailered concours cars that never are driven. I immediately bought it, and was absolutely satisfied. The car runs perfectly, no leaks, and is the best 356 I have owned (of 15 cars over the years). In 2006, I needed to finish another project and sold the speedster to a stock broker from Chicago who flew to Kansas City and drove the car back to Chicago (600 mile trip) and had a perfect trip. We have since become good friends. He showed the car in regional Porsche shows and enjoyed it, while winning a few trophies. I regretted selling it, and I told him if he ever decided to sell it again, I wanted first choice. As luck would have it, he called me in 2008 and said he was buying a Daytona and needed to sell the speedster. I immediately bought it back (he made a huge profit), and brought it home. Redline service then proceeded to remove the C model disk brakes and installed a completely reconditioned B model drum brake system. Redline also designed a custom original exhaust with a new jet hot coated muffler customized to have center exiting chrome tips. It also has new German carpets and seats done by Tony at Autobahn Interiors of San Diego. I took the car to the Arizona Porsche Club concourse and won first in street class. I am now embarking on a new career and have decided to sell her again. I know I will regret it, but also it will make someone else very happy. *Please be sure to call Chuck with ANY questions or concerns about this beautiful Speedster at (520)977-5394. **Additional pictures available here: http://s1139.photobucket.com/albums/n553/PorschePlanet/1955%20Porsche%20356%20Speedster/(Some images shown have the old disc brakes and wheels, it now has B drums.) ***The following letter was sent to the owner from the Porsche Cars North America Certificate Of Authenticity office: We are in the process of researching your VIN and unfortunately the kardex is completely blank and we will not be able to provide you with a Certificate of Authenticity for this VIN.I will shred your credit card information.
