Vehicle Detail

This car is relisted due to a "non-performing" bidder. See note on the bottom of this description. Enough negative thoughts, let's have a clean and fun auction! Highest bidder takes this car home! 1993 Taurus SHO, Yamaha Engine and Automatic Transmission (eBay says Manual; it is automatic!)! LET'S GET THIS AUCTION MOVING! THIS AUCTION IS NO RESERVE & ONLY $299 WILL START THE BIDDING! THIS START PRICE IS NOT THE VALUE OF THE CAR; ITS A GOOD CAR! eBay system lists it as a manual but it is an AUTOMATIC! The March 2011 edition of Hemming's Classic Car includes a column by Jim Donnelly. He had inherited his father's SHO and wrote a nice article about the vehicle. "We haven't reached the point where 1990's cars are collector magnets or show-field regulars, but when that happens, the Taurus SHO will be one of the standouts". I have taken a photo of the article and it is is the picture section. This particular example of this car is interesting. I bought it last fall in eastern North Carolina, drove it to Naples Florida and back to Ohio. I have used it sparingly since. This is my third SHO. My wife and I bought a new one with the Yamaha and the manual transmission back in 1989. It was a great car and only 3 growing boys and a desire to have a conversion van stood in the way of holding that car long term. In 2006, after the boys were grown and out of college, I bought a used, oval Taurus SHO's, a 1997 example. It had a Ford V8 and an automatic transmission. This newer Taurus was OK but it was not the same as the first one. When buying one of those V8's you must be concerned about welded cams, weak transmissions and the rear coil on plug arrangement is adventuresome when there is a failure. Once I got that car running well and looking good, tragedy struck. A young girl with a freshly-minted driver's license hit that SHO while it was parked in front of our house and the damage was enough to preclude repair. So, I decided to look for one of the Yamaha models and this is the one I found. When I bought it, the seller described it as a North Carolina vehicle in very good condition. I am going to be far more honest about it than he was. The car has a Pella, Iowa dealer sticker on it so it was not always a North Carolina car. This car is better than many of these that I have seen for the miles and the age but it is not a showroom fresh car. It is a strange mix of better than expected and not as good as you might hope. The engine runs great. The last owner spent a small fortune getting all the gaskets replaced on the engine at the Ford dealership. See the pictures, the engine is gorgeous. Transmission is also fine. It is sluggish to shift when it cold and you just need not to stick your foot on the floor while it is warming up. Once it is a little warm in just a couple of minutes, then it is fine. Even from a cold start, most of the time, this does not even come into play and it shifts perfectly. Probably a fluid flush and a filter would make this part of the car as perfect as the engine. The engine compartment looks very good. The trunk looks great. The body is better than most but not perfect. The paint was dull and not even metallic looking when I got it. I spent a weekend with my buffer and got to know the body well. I got a nice shine out of it and it looked good. It made the car drivable without embarrassment. But, this work and buffing does expose the scuffs, scratches and dings and there are a few of these that I have tried to show in the pictures. Most of these I did not notice until I undertook the cleaning work. There is some rust in three places that I found. First is below the fuel tank filler. My body man says he would put a patch panel on and paint the quarter panel. The other two areas are when you open the rear doors, there is a little rust inside the door jam on the bottom at the rear of the sill. At this point, it is just bubbling. Again, this is not a big deal. The right side plastic side panel on the two doors is scraped through to the white. See the pictures. It is not very bad and I would just paint the plastic panels on the bottoms of the doors when I did the patch panel. Outside of that, there is three little dime sized dings in the car. Again, these were not noticed by me until I waxed it. On of the "24v" emblems was knocked off and there is a minor distortion in the sheet metal at the place where the emblem goes. I bought two new emblems and will include these for the buyer. Finally, like most of these, the spoiler is sun-damaged. The center lost its clearcoat and this let the sun damage the plastic. It can be filled and repainted or it can be replaced. This is not a very big deal either. Inside, I would say it is also a mixed quality. Everything works and this was a nice surprise. The front seats show minimal wear for the miles and the age, much less than my Lincoln shows at only 80k miles. But, the passenger side bolster covering is coming loose and needs to be put back in. The rear seat is excellent and the carpeting everywhere, including the factory floor mats, is very good. The headliner up front is fine and it was several days before I even noticed the rear headliner. They must have used this car for moving once and stacked boxes too tall in it. There are many little tears back there. The sunroof works great and does not leak but the sun shade is sun damaged and the sunroof seals might need some silicone; they do not leak but it is not as quiet as it should be. The sun shade looks great retracted back (when you can't see it) and does not look good covering the glass. The power antennae works (go figure), the radio works (it is the first one of these radios I have had that has not lost the display lights). The comfortron temperature system works perfectly but the buttons are like someone poked them. During the day, it is fine but with the headlights on, the button illumination lights show white on all buttons. I have a new one of these which I am going to try to install before you pick this car up. If I have not installed it by then, I will just give it to you. The air conditioning is great and was professionally changed to R134! When I bought it, the car had loud, glass-pak type mufflers. The noise inside the car was overwhelming and gave me a headache on that initial 1,700 mile trip. And so I have changed them. It sounds perfect now but it was an expensive undertaking. So, that is $350 that you don't have to spend! It was also hard starting at times and my mechanic replaced the cam and crankshaft sensors and this cured it. That was another $425 that you don't have to worry about and the best part about this work was that the problem was solved and it starts like a dream now. I have not examined the brakes but they do a good job. The wheels and tires are fine, I would put the tires at 1/2 worn but they are a matching set with no abnormal wear at any of the corners. The steering is light like my Lincoln is and the former owner thought the steering was too vague and he thought it needed a rack. So, he bought a rack and brought it to his mechanic. His mechanic told him that the rack was within specifications and did not need to be replaced. My mechanic told me something similar based more on the lack of abnormal tire wear. I bought the rack from the former owner for $84. I also have 2 new struts for the front that my mechanic also said were not required at this time. The winning bidder can buy both of these items at 1/2 price of what I paid for it and we will just make this an even $80. Someday it will need a new rack and struts or you might decide that you want to change it now. It goes down the road true and straight and it is quick. FOR 1993, IT WAS A ROCKET! I would expect that this model is at its lowest value point right at this moment. Enjoy it, drive it and put some money and work in it when you feel like doing so. So why am I selling? Well, two months after buying this, I found an Oldsmobile that was almost identical to the one that was in my family when I was finishing high school. I bought the Oldsmobile and it needs a lot! So, my SHO and my 1985 Thunderbird Elan are the casualties of picking which project I am going to see through to the end. Please look at the pictures carefully and read my description carefully. I have given you a full description of the car. As I reread my writing, it seems like a negative assessment of a car and that is not accurate. It is a decent 18/19 year old car. In fact, I was happy it when I bought it and most buyers would be happy with as well. It is a good car, not perfect but something you can enjoy while you bring it all the way back to beautiful. Or enjoy it as it is and sell it to someone later for full restoration. It will likely appreciate the whole time you own it and there aren't many cars with negative depreciation! Please only bid what you can pay. A $500 no-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours. Pickup within 3 weeks at Toledo Ohio. No trades, no payment plans, no checks, and I am not in the car delivery business. Paypal for the deposit and the balance can be paid with cash or another paypal payment. The title and vehicle will be released when funds clear. Car is for sale locally and so the auction can end early if I get my asking price of $4,250. You might well be able to buy it for much less. Miles are approximate as I do use this car about once a week; once the auction is won and the deposit is paid, I will not drive the car from that point until you pick it up. Have Fun! Bid to Win and God Bless! Again, this car is re-listed due to a non-performing bidder. I just don't understand people like this; it is not fair to the sellers and to the other bidders. So, the rules for this auction are that if you have "0" feedback, contact me before bidding or I will cancel your bid. This is time-consuming and potentially expensive. I will open the case and leave the unpaid buyers feedback if you waste my time and the time of the other bidders. Attention Sellers: Do not accept a bid from johnny*larry( 0 )
