Vehicle Detail
1949 Chevrolet Deluxe Fastback, 6-Cylinder "235-straight (in-line), with drum brakes, 3-speed with shift on the column, and AM radio. My Grandfather purchased this car in 1953 used from a dealer (probably a trade-in) in Clinton MO with very low mileage. It was kept in a garage for this period of time. He occasionally drove it around town until 1986 and my Father inherited it. We towed it from Missouri to Virginia in 1986. It has been in a garage for part of this time but is currently under a canvas cover. Obviously needs a lot of work - please check the photos for details. It does not run but we had a mechanic take a look at it and he stated that the engine would run with minimal effort but the body needs repair and some of the rubber components have rotted over time. It is definitely towable. The car includes a spare tire and jack. Four (4) hubcaps, ash tray, and speaker covers are also included. All original equipment. Vehicle is being sold AS IS...a few years ago, we posted a shrink-wrapped AS IS boat for sale and the winner demanded after the auction was over that we unshrink-wrap it, fix it, clean it, put it in the water and show them that it would run before they would pay for it. It you are going to demand that we clean it, fix it, and get it in running order before you will pay us - please do not bid on this automobile. It is being sold AS IS. Just as an aside, eBay let these morons put a negative comment against our account, our only negative comment. Please ask if you have any questions. The buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping. Buyers are welcome to examine the car by appointment. In 1949, Chevrolet presented its first "all new" model since the end of World War II. A lower, sleeker profile, with the lines of the front fenders smoothly blending into the doors to be countered by the classic rear fenders that continued to "bulge" out of the sides of the car. Improvements in chassis and suspension design made the 1949 Chevrolet one of the best handling for its time. A two-piece curved windshield improved vision and added to the overall sleek look. I believe these are some of the specifications from the original manufacturer (not entirely sure): Overhead valve Cast Iron block 235.5 cubic inch displacement Bore & Stroke: 3-1/2 x 3-3/4 Compression ratio: 6.5:1 Carter one-barrel carburetor Brake Horsepower: 90 @ 3300 RPM Four main bearings Solid lifters
