Vehicle Detail

Fly in and road trip home in an extremely nice, very original 68 Mustang GT Fastback. It has been owned by one family since 1981 and has been in central Missouri since new. I personally know the owners going back to the late 1970's. The Highland Green paint shows very well and still has a nice shine. The paint does show some use like rock chips on the bottom of the quarter panels and front valance. The best thing about this car besides how beautiful it looks is how well it runs and drives. It cruises at 70-80 mph effortlessly and pulls hard from a stop all the way up to 100 mph. The engine doesn't run out power. When driving down the highway, it's smooth, quiet, doesn't wander, vibrate or shake. It just drives nice. The engine was rebuilt with a Ford Motorsport cam, Cobra type intake manifold, headers and now has a brand new 600 cfm Holley carb. The engine runs nice and cool all of the time. The temp gauge has never moved past 1/4 even when idling in traffic. The C4 transmission has a shift kit that will chirp the tires in second gear and sometimes even third. The rear end is the orignal 9 inch Ford with 3.25 gears and posi trac. It has been rebuilt with new bearings and clutches. The headers, dual exhaust and turbo mufflers sound perfect. Not too loud but with enough noise to let you know you're driving a muscle car - without that annoying drone. I have driven this car almost daily (nice weather) for the last couple of months and it has been 100% dependable. In addition to the new Holley carb and new BF Goodrich Radial TA tires, the entire dash has been restored. This includes new paint, new dash pad, new instrument cluster with new lenses and dials, new passenger side bezel and emblem, new outside door handles, new buttons and emblems in the steering wheel center, new rocker panel moldings, rebuilt distributor and tune-up. The doors were also repainted at the same time as the dash with brand new door panels. Both windows roll up and down nice and smooth with no binding. They also fit the weatherstrip good and tight so the car has less wind noise than any old Mustang I've ever owned. The fold down rear seat and trim panels are all original and in good shape. I just replaced the heater core also. When this was done I completely checked the underside of the cowl. There is no rust and no leaks. I poured a gallon of water down the cowl vent and not a single drop got on the carpet. I then looked under the dash with a light. Not a single drop or trail of water anywhere. I did get caught in the rain a couple of times when I was driving it everyday. The wipers work perfect and the inside of the car stayed completely dry. All of the lights and turn signals work including the turn signal indicator in the hood and fog lights. Both fog lights are original with "FOG" molded into the bottom of the glass. All of the interior lights work including the light inside the front of the console and the door that slides up and down works fine. In fact everything in car seems to work perfectly. There's not much to listen to, but the stock, original AM radio works too. There is no rust in the front frame rails, rear frame rails, torque boxes, shock towers, trunk drop offs or bottoms of the doors. The pass side quarter panel was replaced with an NOS panel. The C8ZZ part number is still visible on the inside. The front valance, rear valance, bumper brackets, and export brace were all replaces with NOS parts when the car was painted about 15 years ago. The drivers side 1/4 was repaired with a patch panel. Both rear floor pans were replaced. It may look like a perfect show car in the pictures but I consider it to be an extremely nice driver. Upon close up scrutiny, there are chips, a couple of bubbles on the bottom/front/outside of the pass door and crack in the paint on the hood where it was closed on an unsecured air cleaner wingnut - ouch. Overall I would give the paint an 8 out of 10. Nice enough to take to a car show - not nice enough for a 1st place trophy. This 68 Fastback is nicely optioned with the previously mentioned GT package, J-code 302 and C4 auto. It is also equipped with a console, fold down rear seat, turn signal hood, and a pop-open GT gas cap. I have an invoice from Ford documenting the options. I don't want to sell this car but I found out I have a little one on the way and I'm gonna need a baby hauler in stead of something that hauls a**. If you happen to have a green Jeep Commander Overland in immaculate condition, low miles, I would consider a trade. For more info and honest, straight forward answers, call Paul at 573-230-6222 The Columbia Missouri Regional airport is about 1/2 hour from my house. I'd be glad to pick you up in the GT so you can drive it home. Please note that I will be going to the Shelby Convention in Tulsa Oklahoma so we'll need to work around those dates. This car is also advertised locally on that "oneguyslist" so this auction may end early.
