Vehicle Detail
You're bidding on a 1987 Saab 900S hatchback located in Sacramento, California 95820. Specs: 2.0L 16-valve engine, no turbo 5-speed manual transmission 224,xxx miles (224,342 in picture, but I still drive it so expect a few more miles) Clear California titleWhat's wrong with it? Second gear grinds if you shift quickly; a slow or double-clutched shift is smooth and silent, though. All other gears, including reverse, work perfectly. The reverse lockout/key retainer mechanism works properly as well. Leaks oil. Looks to be from the "pan" gasket between the engine and transmission (the transmission is the oil pan on a Classic 900). Dashboard cracks (hence the dash cover) Minor electrical problems: cruise control, power locks and heater control lighting don't work. Turn signal switch doesn't usually "stick" for right turns. Instrument lights and dimmer work properly and the bulbs are new. A/C compressor belt is not installed. Compressor isn't seized, but past that I don't know anything about the A/C system. Heat and blower work fine, including the vacuum-driven mode selector. Some gravel dings in hood and a missing front bumper corner piece (see pictures) Usual C900 interior rattles plus an exhaust rattle somewhere around the tailpipe. Jack is AWOL; original spare tire and lug wrench are there, though. What's great about this car? Glossy, original red paint looks amazing for 24 years old No rust on the body. Zero. (Can you tell I used to live in New England and I'm surprised?) This car has been in California since new; until I brought it to Sacramento, it had been in the Bay Area. Original "Sunset" license plates, DMV fees paid through April 2012 Engine starts and runs great, passed smog on 3/31/2011 Tan leather seats in great shape, carpet good. The seats were installed by a previous owner from another 900 along with a manual seatbelt conversion and new headliner fabric. Somehow she never got around to the sunroof fabric or connecting the seat heaters, though. Power windows work, every time. Alpine CD player with detachable face. Matching tires with plenty of tread. Title is clear, in my name and on hand. Can be transferred anywhere in California without another smog check. Why am I selling it? I love old Saabs, but I really don't have time to tear into the transmission. I have another car plus two motorcycles and I don't drive much anyway. Sale terms: Sold as-is, where-is. It's a 24 year old car, after all. It should go without saying, but just in case, your successful bid gets the car, a properly-released title (and a bill of sale should you desire, though it's not required in California) and all keys to the car. As this is a private sale, taxes are the sole responsibility of the buyer. No personal checks, Nigerian money orders, etc. I don't expect the sale price to be that high, so cash is preferred. Other payment methods by prior arrangement. As long as you're not trying to get a free car, I'm open to most legitimate options. $250 PayPal deposit required within 48 hours of close of auction. Deposit will not be refunded for issues within the buyer's control (changed mind, didn't bother to get shipping quote and got surprised etc). I will meet you anywhere within ~100 miles of Sacramento for the cost of gas and transportation home. I will not arrange shipping, but I'm happy to work with a buyer's shipper (pickup after or concurrent with payment, of course). California buyers: passed "enhanced" smog on 3/31/2011, so it can be transferred without another smog check. Other US buyers: I don't expect any inspection issues, but I can't make any guarantees for other states' inspection programs. Canadian buyers: It's over 15 years old, so it should be admissible without regard to CMVSS (and pre-1990, so no DRL), but duty, GST/PST/HST and your province's registration are beyond my control. Buyers outside the US or Canada: If you're located outside the US or Canada, do not bid. Additional pictures can be added or e-mailed upon request: if there's something you want to see that's not clear in my pictures, I'm happy to take more. Incidentally, the warning light that's on in the picture is because the parking brake is set.
