Vehicle Detail

Listed here is a true survivor, an extremely well preserved 1969 Honda C102 with the 49cc cast iron overhead valve motor, and 3 speed semi-automatic transmission. Since 1958, Honda has produced over 60 Million of these Cub series machines, and still exports them to several countries around the world. It is very obvious that the past owners of this little step-thru model maintained and took very good care of it. I have also done so, and had fun with it as well, but it is time to move on to another project. I have decided to offer it here on ebay to someone who can take over the enjoyment of owning a piece of Honda history. I bought it from the previous owner seeing only a few pictures, and a verbal description. I planned on a complete teardown and ground up restoration, but after seeing it in its current condition, I immediately changed my plans, and did a very detailed cleaning and inspection of the bike to preserve it for future generations in its original condition. I also replaced the battery with a new period correct unit that had been setting dry in a box for years, and looks right at home behind the white side cover. It has also been tuned up with new OEM points and spark plug. I will share what I know from what I have been told about it. The previous owner had owned it since 1999, and had replaced several items with original Honda parts, and used it to commute a short distance to work every day when weather would allow so. Some of the OEM items replaced were the chain, throttle, brake and speedometer cables, air filter element and air tube, and some bolts, clamps, and miscellaneous fasteners. The tires were also changed out with period correct replacements. Just after the new tires, it was parked, as a larger motorcycle was purchased to go other places than just to work and back. When the tires were replaced, it was discovered that the front brakes would soon need to be replaced. A new set of OEM brake shoes were ordered, but never installed, and included with the bike when I purchased it. The speedometer gave the past owner some issues as well. They could not get it to work, so a new OEM unit was installed. It still would not work, so they gave up on it. When I replaced the front brakes, I found the gear was not installed properly in the hub, and after reassembly, it now works fine. The only issue now, it is unclear how many miles this time machine actually has on it. The only other concern about the bike is that somewhere along the line, the kick-starter was broken off, and a plug was placed over the shaft. You can see this in the pictures. When I asked the prior owners about it, they never realized it ever had a kick start, due to using the electric start. I did push start it once just to know I could do so if the starter or battery ever failed. The replacement part is still available according to my Honda dealer, but I don’t want to tear into the motor to replace it. The sprocket cover is also missing a piece as seen in the pictures. I have been looking for a replacement on ebay that will match the bike’s condition and patina, and will replace it if I can find one by the end of the auction. This C102 is one of the nicest original condition units that I have ever seen. The amount patina is unbelievable and incredible for being 42 years old, and people are blown away when they are told what year it was built. The chrome is near perfect. There is a small scuff or scratch on the rear lower muffler, but it can’t be seen unless you are lying on the ground. There are a few minor scratches here and there on the painted metal surfaces, and a small area on the swing arm looks like a small amount of battery acid may have been spilled on it, but nothing that looks like more than normal wear for its age. The plastic parts are very nice as well, with couple of light scuffs here and there. There is an abrasion the throttle’s handgrip, but nothing serious. The seat is original, and in great shape with some surface rust on the seat pan, but again, is nothing unusual for this old of unit. There are still some traces of the nubs on the tread of the tires. The small pushrod motor starts easily, and runs well. The transmission shifts just like it should. The horn and lights work with the exception of the headlamp’s low beam. A simple bulb replacement will fix this issue. The bike is available for inspection in Sioux Falls, SD if you are nearby and would like to look at it in person. If you have read this far, and are interested in owning this C102, please read and understand the terms of this auction below before bidding. We have been burned by non-paying and low feedback bidders in the past, so it is necessary to print the following. Please take no offense to this if you are a reputable ebayer. If you are the winning bidder, we will require a $200.00 non-refundable deposit via Paypal within 48 hours after the end of the auction. We would also like to be contacted through ebay within 24 hours of the auction's end. We will also be glad to visit with you by phone...Just give us a number to contact you. The final balance of the winning bid will also need to be paid in full within 7 days of the auction's end unless other arrangements are made. Because of the non-paying bidders here on ebay, any bidder having a feedback reading of less than 10 will have to contact me before you place your bid, or it will be cancelled, no questions asked. We will also assist in any way that we can to arrange a shipping situation, but all shipping arrangements will be the buyer’s responsibility and expense. We also prefer that we have shipping methods and arrangements somewhat in place before the end of the auction. We can help with delivery to a terminal, or can meet the buyer within a reasonable distance, but ask that the buyer cover any of these costs. Due to the scammers around the globe, we will only accept Paypal from the winning bidder for the down payment. Cash in person, or Certified Cashier’s Check will be accepted for the balance, but it must be cleared by our bank before we will ship or release the bike. We also will accept Paypal for the remaining balance of the bike, but the buyer will be responsible for any Paypal expenses incurred in the transaction. If you cannot meet or agree to these requirements or requests, please do not bid on this item. This item may also be listed locally, and we reserve the right to end this auction early if it is sold. Thanks for taking the time to look at this listing, good bidding, and good luck.
