Vehicle Detail

1970 MGB/GT Project Car 1.8L 4 cylinder 365,000 miles 4 Speed LH type Electric Overdrive in 3rd and 4th. Steel Wheels I am the second owner of this car. I purchased it in March of 1977 and it had 99k showing on the odometer. In 2001 when I took it off the road due to failing the polution standards test here in NJ it had ticked over the the odometer 3 times and currently has 65K showing.. It has the 1.8L 4 cylinder high compression engine with dual SU side draft carbs and the standard MGB 4 speed manual transmission with the optional LH type electric overdrive in 3rd and 4 gear. In 1993 I had the engine, transmission, overdrive and differential completely gone through. The HC pistons (8.75:1) were replaced with +.020 standard compression (8.0:1). The bearings went to +.010 and the Cam was replaced (stock lift). I also had the rear shock conversion kit installed to switch from the Armstrong to tube type shocks (I still have the original Armstrong shocks and the conversion is a bolt on kit so switching back is no problem). The car is complete except for the air injection pump that everyone took off. (I may have it in a box somewhere) In addition to the car I'm including an original factory maintenance manual. I last started the car in 2006. I changed the oil and added clean gas to the carbs, squirted oil in the cylinders and hand cranked the engine to lube the upper cylinders. I used jumper cables and it started right up. The freeze plugs had pushed our and all I had to keep the hose inthe radiator but it ran fine for not having been started in 5 years. This car was my daily drive from 1977 until 2001 and with a few exceptions (coff coff..LUCAS, the Prince of Darkness.) it was completely dependable. When it failed inspection and could not be re-registered. I had a grand plan to restore it for weekend drives with the wife. Unfortunatly, life got in the way and now my job is relocating and I'm selling the house. So now I'm looking for someone else who has the time, space, skills and that masochistic streak that says "I love british cars and want to restore one!"
