Vehicle Detail

Am relisting this motorcycle in the bidding format because offers in the previous listing didn't quite get to where I wanted. This is my third GS850G because I think it's one of the best bikes ever made. 1980 was the second year for this sport-touring model with lots of power and clean shaft drive. This is one of the nicest "vintage" (that's how Progressive Insurance classifies it) bikes you will find. Its original paint and striping are in very good condition, and most chrome and other bright-metal surfaces range from OK to very good. Seat looks almost new. It runs well and stops like it should. It's not light but is well balanced and handles nicely. It's a joy to ride. This bike was in storage for a while in Illinois because the engine's cam chain had broken. I bought it thinking I could get it fixed for not a lot of money. Ha! The mechanic opened the engine and pronounced it healthy except for the chain. He installed a new chain and replaced the lower case with one that had a good chain guide (I have the original case). He cleaned and retuned the carbs. Now it runs very well and the bike is fast. It has an aftermarket 4-into-1 exhaust that was very loud, and I pulled out the plug and found that it had no baffling of any kind inside. So I installed a new V&H glass packing kit, and now it's mellow but still sounds hot. The system is discolored in places and some chrome is peeling from the muffler's inside surface, at the rear wheel. Front brake calipers were cleaned out, master cylinder rebuilt, new hoses installed and fluid replaced. Rear brake is fine. Rear tire (Avon) is near-new and front tire is good. I added a new National Plexifairig windshield, a used universal luggage rack and new top box to carry stuff. Case guards came with the bike and I installed them. The pegs shown on the guards don't go with this sale, but I can throw in some others. I installed new speedometer and tachmeter cables. The speedo works but the tach is sluggish, and doesn't read more than 3,100 rpm. It needs repairing or replacing. I had most of the work done and it cost me more than I want to think about. Meanwhile, I haven't ridden it much, and my wife wants to get back into riding, so I just bought a big, roomy cruiser. Now this must go. If you appreciate the old Suzuki GS bikes and especially GS850G shaft-drive types, you would definitely like this one. If you've not owned a GS, you will probably be pleasantly surprised at how well they ride and handle. The bike is near Westerville, Ohio, northeast of Columbus. Feel free to ask any questions via eBay, or email me (TheSuperScribe@yahoo.com) or call my cell, 760-505-4067. I'd prefer that it be picked up, but will make the bike available for shipping, which of course is at the buyer's expense.
