1996 Passat TDI w/5sp Welcome to my auction for a 1996 Passat TDI Diesel affectionately known as “Betsy”. I have helped my girl get though her mid-life crisis by giving her a complete makeover. She has always good to never leave me stranded and saw me through the worst times in my life. It is with true sadness that I have to let her go after so much care and expense has been put into her so that she could last and last. No expense has been spared to make this car like ‘new’ using VW OEM parts. Although she has 339K miles on the clock, she is far from being over the hill. Properly maintained, the motor is capable of 800K (the 1Z was used as industrial motor to power generators and lights). She has gone through many upgrades, which I will cover now. Hopefully, when you are comparing my car against other you will be thinking what other people are NOT telling you or leaving out for you to accomplish. I have spent a lot of money to MAINTAIN my girl properly so I can get that 800K, therefore, if you looking for a ‘cheap’ date, then look at the other Passat Queens on Ebay. In addition to the major work shown above oil has been changed every 5K with Shell Rotella T5/T6 using Mann oil filters and changing air filters every 10K. I also replaced the fuel filter with a CAT 2 Micron System and did a coolant flush with CAT ECL coolant (much better than G12 IMHO). In addition, I have a new SS downpipe, rear struts (Blisten HDs), and 2 Mann oil filters that I will let go with car if the Buy It Now is used. So what wrong with it? It needs a new AC evaporator core and foam on the heater box doors (I have already replaced everything else as noted above. I’m not the type to be dishonest and tell you it ‘needs a charge’.) Needs taillight seals. Needs clear lens for rear reading light Has dent on passenger rear door (see pictures) Why sell it? I bought it when my Mom had cancer and was being treated. I did regular 1k drives back and forth to home during her treatments. She is in total remission right now thank GOD. Also, she was in an accident that broke her back and I was again doing 1K drives home to attend to her. Unfortunately, I need to pay some bills and so my girl ‘Betsy’ is going to save me again in a different way. Please understand, she looks great but she is a 15 year old car. I would rate the exterior 9/10 and the interior 8/10. You will need to see her to understand. I have most of the major receipts where ‘trusted’ VW mechanics performed the work. All other work was accomplished myself using OEM parts or local vendors. The car will be sold ‘AS-IS’ with no warranty. However, I would drive her to California tomorrow. Car is solid and reliable.
