Vehicle Detail
1949 Buick Roadmaster Sedan. This is a project car that you can either continue restoring or part out. I purchased the car in 2004 in Kentucky and had intentions of restoring it. When I purchased it, the car was complete and ran albeit very poorly. Pretty much everything on the car needed work from the brakes to the electrical so I started working on it. As many of us find in this hobby, I realized it was going to take more time and money than I had available to complete as I started to diassemble it. I spent a great deal of time refurbishing a number of parts and purchasing a lot of NOS and NORS parts for the car. I will be very forthright in this listing giving the good and the bad of the car and what is included. Please ask me any questions you have. The car will roll but it does not run and has no brakes so you will need a flatbed to haul it away and maybe a pickup or van for the hood and fenders that are not on the car. The good: The frame appears solid and all the parts are there. The buyer will get all the parts that I have removed from the vehicle and have not reinstalled. This includes the grille, radiator splash pan, radiator, carb, fuel pump, intake manifold, air cleaner, starter, horns, to name a few. I have the original inner and outer front fenders and hood which will also go with the car. I have refurbished a great deal of the front end with new coil springs, one rebuilt shock (by Apple Hydraulics), repacked front wheel bearings with NOS bearings, new front brakes, new shock links, and generally have cleaned and painted the frame and all components from the firewall forward. The interior is complete with a radio and all the guages. Overall the interior is not too bad. What you see in the pictures are aftermarket seat covers that were installed over the original upholstery at some point in the distant past. What I believe to be the original straight eight engine paired to the Dynaflow transmission is all there as well. The engine turns freely and I cleaned and painted it as best as I could. I have not rebuilt the engine although I have cleaned out the oil pan and the valve train. A new oil pan gasket and timing cover gasket and seal was replaced in the process. Both the starter and the generator were cleaned and refurbished as well. All the stainless trim on the car is in pretty good shape too both inside and out. The chrome trim on the rear trunk emblem and the sunvisor is well pitted however. The back bumper has some scratches and a bit of surface rust but would rechrome nicely. The front bumper is in about the same condition. The not so good: The car is currently not running though the engine ran when I purchased it. The brake lines are not hooked up and the master cylinder is off the car but it has been rebuilt. The fuel pump comes with the car but needs rebuilt and the gas from the tank to the pump will need to be replaced. All the wiring is shot and new wiring harnesses will be needed. The body itself has some issues, notably rust in the front rockers and body mounts. The floor pan on the passenger side has been perforated. The innner fender on the driver side was rusted through in the front and there was some bondo work that I found on the fender itself on that side. There was also some bondo work done on the lower rear fenders and lower front fenders I believe. The trunk has rusted through at the bottom of the spare tire well as well. The exhaust system is not on the car. It needs a center section for the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe from the engine back including the muffler. However, both the left and right parts of the exhaust manifold are fine and the intake manifold is good too. I can take additional pictures of any part of the car that you want to see if they are not already included in the ones listed here. Just let me know. If you are into old Buicks, this car has a lot of good parts that are worth more collectively than the car as a whole. The car has a clean Michigan title. Cash, money order, personal check or Paypal accepted, funds must clear before it is picked up. On Apr-28-11 at 07:17:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I was asked whether the car has the jack and stand with it....It does not. There is a very worn spare tire with the car however.
