Vehicle Detail
1958 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce blue "celeste", as stated on an email from Archivio Storico Alfa Romeo (Elvira Ruocco), manufactured on the 21st of April of 1958 and sold on May 12th 1958 to Mr. Hoffman Motor Car Co. , New York. S/N is 1495F03861 and motor number is 1315 31093, original matching numbers. I've owned and driven the car for several years. When I got it, I had it stripped to bare metal and repainted in the original color. Seats were redone in black leather (originally vinyl) with light blue piping. Transmission was rebuilt by Santo's Italian car service in Northridge, California. All mechanicals were redone and engine was not touched: it had great compression on all cylinders and it ran (and still runs) like a champ. Car ALWAYS starts right away and never, ever left me stranded. It was photographed and featured on Hagerty's magazine, by the great Evan Klein, which meant a grueling schedule of all-day driving almost non-stop. Car behaved beautifully. It is all sorted out. Everything works, every heat sensor, turning signal, fuel gauge, etc. All chrome was redone and carpeting, using Wilton wool. Even headlights are original from the period. Car is registered with original period license plate. The best driving Alfa I've ever owned (and I've owned about 12 or so). It is NOT a Pebble Beach show car but it is totally restored and probably the best "street" restoration money can buy. It looks great and drives even better. Please contact Santo at 818-701-1614 with any questions. He know the car well and can vouch for its quality and reliability. Convertible top is NEW, cloth, and was up only once! Car is kept covered inside a secured garage at all times. I must have driven it around 500 to 600 miles since restoration was completed, a couple years ago. The market on these cars is climbing steadily. Gooding & Co. sold a 1956 Spider Normale in August last year (Pebble Beach), condition #2 for $74,250.00, and a 1959 Spider Veloce condition #2 in March this year for $99,000.00. Those were very close to show cars. Mine is a step below that quality of restoration, although with a bit of care here and there it could be made into a show car. NADA classic car guide puts a "high retail" value (which describes my car's condition on the dot) at $66,900.00. I have the original manual somewhere but I have to find it... I put it away so I wouldn't lose it! No tool pouch or jack, although I know of a jack and depending of the auction result I will provide it to the winner. This is a very honest and real car and my price is close to today's top of the market. This is not a steal (today). Tomorrow, who knows? Thanks for bidding. On Apr-30-11 at 09:28:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I also had the Webers rebuilt by Pierce Manifold in Gilroy, the fuel tank cleaned flushed and coated, a new winsdhield installed (the old one had some scratches)and all chrome was redone. Here's a list of the work done by the former owner before I got the car: NEW wheel cylinders, NEW brake pipes, NEW stainless hoses, NEW correct Ferodo linings, forn and rear (riveted front, bonded rear). NEW master cylinder, all new hardware, Speedbleeders, unions. NEW fron wheel bearings charged with DOT 5 Silicon. NEW wiring harness, complete frona and rear. NEW exhaust system from header back. NEW 155-15 Vdersteins tires (spare is a Michelin X). NEW speedo and rev counter cables. NEW hubcaps. NEW oil temperature sensor. Most weather stripping replaced. NEW battery. NEW rubber floor mats, including trunk from Re-Originals. NOS Lucas tail lamp lenses and gaskets. Gas tank cleaned, flushed and coated (I did it again when I got the car, just in case...)On May-03-11 at 11:32:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Choke hole on dashboard IS plugged with a black rubber plug. I understand the plug should be silver originally... Here's a GREAT review by Giulietta.com:http://giuliettas.com/2011/05/01/market-309-stunning-celeste-spider-veloce-750f/#more-9000Weber Carbs numbers are 3447 and 3457. Transmission numbers also match chassis, according to former owner.
