Vehicle Detail
Rare and very unusual pickup Up for auction is a 1940 Plymouth Pickup Model PT-105. This pickup belonged to my father. He started to restore this vehicle before he got sick. Chrysler didn't build many of these pickups. Total production of this model was 6,879 units. This pickup carries some very unusual equipment. There is a tag on the door post that said's it's a specially ordered pickup. The unusual equipment include side mounted spare tire, two windshield wipers, rear mounted gas tank, ash tray in the center of the dash and the box is mounted higher on the frame then the normal pickup. Some of these vehicles were sold to the US military or purchased as Govenment Fleet Vehicles. I have no idea if this vehicle is one of them. If anybody can shed some light on this please do. I don't know how many of the 6,879 units were this type. As you can see by the photos my father was planning to make it a military vehicle. Along with the body work and paint he did he also overhauled the engine. The engine is from a 1950 Plymouth. It is not the original engine. I have had this truck in my barn for almost 10 years. I cleaned the points, carburator, installed a battery and a small gas tank under the hood and it started right up. It really ran very good. No blue smoke that I could see. As you can see from the photos left front fender, and both back fenders were damaged when his barn collapsed in 1997. I took the large dents out of the fenders and primed the rear fenders. They will require a lot more work before they are ready for final paint. There is also a small hole in the gas tank from the collapse. The gas tank will require cleaning, repair and sealing. The brakes were also repaired but this was done many years ago. The cylinders will have to be rebuilt. The cooling system holds water. I believe that the vehicle is complete. The only items that I know are missing are the speedometer, and windshield regulator. These items are the same as 1939 - 1947 Dodge pickup so they should not be hard to find. I will continue to look for these parts. My father was no bodyman or painter. You can expect to have to completely restore the body. This vehicle is sold as is where is. Local pick up only. The buyer is responsible for shipping. This vehicle can not be driven on the street in it's current condition. It must be towed or trailered. I have a clear Minnesota Title. I require a $200.00 deposit be made to my PayPal at the end of the auction. The balance to be paid in cash at the time of vehicle pick up. This vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells.
