I usually buy them as a basket case with a load of expensive parts and finish them. I’ve stopped building 100k show piece FJ40’s due to the economy, and have built really nice everyday drivers for a realistic price in the past 4 years. I only offer a few a year, this is one of those. I’ve sold them all over the world sight unseen with 100% satisfaction. If you want one of the nicest FJ40’s out there without spending the huge dollars for a museum piece this is it. This FJ40 spent months in my shop being built. I get them turn-key, ready for the next owner to hop in and enjoy. I build and go through these bumper to bumper, everything is built correctly and looked over. Any vintage vehicle may need tinkering at some point, but I get them as reliable as anyone could. Buying a completed vehicle cost 50% of what a restoration would, and you don’t have to wait. This FJ40 endured a body off restoration, and was 99% rust free when it begun restoration. I only restore 76-83 FJ40’s due to the much improved design of the body and doors, disc brakes, 4 speed, etc. They are also the most desirable years money wise. I built this particular truck to be an everyday driver, also being very off-road capable. This FJ40 has great street manners, no trailering this one, drive it to your hunting spot or off-road trail. There are just test/tune miles on this rig, most everything is refurbished or rebuilt. Mechanical The motor is a high nikel content 4 bolt main Chevy 350. It’s built to run on pump fuel as is rated at 350 Horse Power. HEI electronic ignition, aluminum intake, off-road built Quadrajet carburetor. I spent hours building this carb to make it off-road worthy, good as any carb can get shy of fuel injection. Will run at any angle. The power steering is a Saginaw style made by AGR. The box is Chevy 1 ton gone over by AGR and is adjustable. 1 finger steering with this one. Electric fan with automatic temp switch. I always use Chevy “ram horn” exhaust manifolds as they flow well and don’t leak like headers. New exhaust with a nice rumble to it. Stock Toyota 4 speed transmission and transfer case. Balanced drive lines, Warn hubs. 2 ½ in suspension lift with new shocks and steering stabilizer. BFG mud terrain 33/12.5/15 tires. Stock 4.10 gearing, F&R are stock open differentials. These are scary on the road locked up, so I keep them stock and open. With this combo, you can cruise comfortably at 70mph all day. There is a decent CD player stereo with speakers. The stock front and rear seats have just been re-upholstered. Stock roll bar installed, good seat belts throughout. The brakes were all just redone, axles rebuilt, fresh oil in everything. Body This body was in phenomenal shape prior to restoration. There are new poly body mounts and bushings throughout. This truck is painted hunter green, the paint is fresh and looks good. All new seals in everything, grade 8 gold bolts, doors open and shut as they should, the lines are great. FJ40’s don’t have much adjustment in body lines like muscle cars, they are never perfect, but if they are close like this one, you can see there have not been wreck issues in the past. The body tub in linexed hunter green. I do linex on this type of driver/off-road capable rig as it cuts down on noise, heat, and is real easy to clean. The first and most important question to ask on a FJ40 purchase is how much rust is there? I look at 20 FJ40’s in the west and only buy 1-2. So many are rusty, you really want to buy one without prior rust issues, and yes those are hard to find. This FJ40 did not have the typical rust issues. I undercoat all FJ40’s with POR-15, this is a must for rust prevention especially back east. Much better than what the factory did. This FJ40 is a blast to drive. It tracks straight, stops straight, has plenty of torque and power with the 350. It’s so well put together, I would not hesitate to drive this as an everyday vehicle. The fuel mileage is about the same as the stock heavy inline 6. Doing the 350 swap actually shaves off 250 lbs. A typical price tag to restore this vehicle at my shop would be 45-50k. Shipping is easy, I get you the quote, you pay it directly to the shipper. I coordinate the pickup etc. Shipping is $700-1200 depending on location, I have a 25% discount with several companies, get much better than the eBay sponsored sites. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit via paypal immediately after the auction ends (no exceptions). Paypal is easy to set up, again, deposit made directly after auction is over, no exceptions. The remainder due within 7 days preferred bank to bank wire transfer. I hold a clean clear WA state title in my name, I send you the title right after the money clears. If you are in WA state, I bought a collector plate for it meaning you never need to buy tabs again. I welcome any 3rd party appraiser to come look at this vehicle during the auction. Winning it means you bought it, not the first chance to look at it. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. Loans on these vehicles are very hard to get, just figure you can’t get a traditional car loan, many have other options, just won’t accept the bank wont give me the loan after the fact excuse. This is a rare desirable vehicle, in this condition, it sells itself. My 2 cents on buying a FJ40 anywhere. They always need thousands of dollars in work, unless they just came from a restoration or repair shop completely redone. The bread and butter of my FJ business is fixing and repairing the “mint” restored land cruisers bought on eBay and around the North West. Please keep that in mind when deciding to purchase.
