Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto NO RESERVE VIN: AR664936 For sale with an honest description and an open door to come drive it and check it out. I bought this car a couple of years ago, and the seller said he had just acquired it from the original owner. It was supposed to be in great shape, only in need of recovered seats and then it would be a nice driver. He said the top was a little tattered but worked fine, and the body was straight with original paint and barely any rust. Yes it was original paint and limited rust if you consider a big hole in the driver’s side foot well limited! And a couple other spots in the floor. Oh, and the rust-through on the fenders and rear lower quarters on both sides, if those don’t count! BUT, the rest of the car was pretty darn cancer free. The tip of the nose had been bumped but the grill survived in pretty good shape, I think it got knocked off instead of being directly hit. I tried to photograph all these places and the work that has been done. These places are still in primer so you can see it. The top was laughable, yes it worked as long as you left it down…at least the frame was in good shape, maybe that’s what he meant! Needless to say, I bought the floor kit from the boys up north and proceeded to cut out the door rot and replace it with new steel. We ended up patching the floor because the areas were confined to specific size pieces, like 6x10 (inches not feet!), so patches would work. The floor kit will go to the new owner if the car reaches the right price. (They were $650, as you probably know if you’re an Alfa guy!) The good news was the owner had the motor rebuilt with documentation and it seems the clutch had been replaced. This was why I figured it was safe to buy it while only looking at photos, albeit not the greatest photos. The seller was a magician with a camera and had a way with BS! And worse, the buyer was making the decision at 2am after a nice evening sampling some Napa cabs! I wasn’t looking for a car to do a full restoration; I just wanted a respectable car that was a good daily driver. Once I drove the car for a couple weeks and it started right up, idled and shifted smoothIy, braked safely and didn’t overheat, I got more comfortable with it. So I did do the seats and top and rear curtain below the top, and got the body to the point I feel that maybe a good block , sand and primer with a re-spray would make it presentable. Could it be worth doing a little more work to finally make it a fun car, probably. Not a show car, just a go get some groceries or toss your board in it and go surfing, kinda ride. Why am I selling it now? Well, fortunately for me I found exactly what I was looking for in a 1960 Guilieta Spider (even turned out to be a veloce unbeknownst to me), a great driver that I haven’t done one thing to except put my smile on and go out and drive it. This long diatribe is meant to get you comfortable with what your buying, and since I want the new owner to have a shot at getting a car pretty fairly priced I’m running this at NO RESERVE. I am maintaining the right to sell it elsewhere as I’m sure there might be a rush to get this honey at a real deal, lol. Don’t get any silly thoughts about me totally giving it away. It is registered and insured in California, with a clean title. All the usual Ebay verbatim applies here, see other ads. Paypal non-refundable $500 deposit immediately following auction, then cash (if your local) or wire transfer only for the balance due within 72 hours. Please don't mess around and bid if you're not serious about buying it, it wastes your time and mine. Thank you.
