Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is this rare 1964 ½ Ford Mustang. This car was purchased in 1999 and completely restored between 1999 and 2005. The car has only been driven a few times a year since it was restored and definitely driven less than 5,000 miles since it was restored. I am selling this car because I rarely drive it and need the cash for other expenses. This car has already been professionally appraised by Auto Appraisal Group, Inc. The minimum bid is within the appraised value and the appraisal will be given to the winning bidder. Additional inspection can be performed at the bidder’s expense. VIN: 5F07D120528, Decoded: 5: 1965 F: built in Dearborn, MI 07: 2-Dr hardtop D: 289 V8 4 Barrel Carb Number 120,528 built Door tag info: 65A M 85 28D 24 1 5 Decoded: 65A: 2 Dr Hardtop body M: Wimbledon White original exterior color 85: Red interior color 28D: Built on April 28th 1964 24: DSO code Jacksonville 1: 3.00:1 rear axle ratio 6: C-4 Automatic Transmission Interior condition: The interior has been completely restored with black deluxe (pony) interior. Almost everything has been replaced including: upholstery, seat foams, carpet, floor mats, headliner, dashpad, door panels, steering wheel, handles, locks, sun visors, rearview mirror, kickpanels (with speakers), rear speakers, glove box door, aftermarket center console. The metal section of the dash that holds the stereo had been cut out by a previous owner, but the section of metal has been replaced to restore the original size. The stereo installed now is a Custom Autosound head unit that is designed to resemble the original stereo, but has AM/FM and is connected to a 6-disc CD player in the trunk. The CD deck can be removed and an auxiliary cord can be attached instead to connect an MP3 player. Also added to the interior is a dual gauge attached under the dash to show the temp and oil pressure. Exterior condition: Most of the sheet metal has been replaced make the car rust free. Replaced metal includes fenders, quarters, door skins, floor pans, trunk lid, hood, front and rear valance, headlight housing and gas tank. Rusted parts not replaced were treated with a rust solvent and primed. Other exterior parts replaced include the bumpers, bumper guards, door handles, locks, headlights, tail lights (LED sequential), windshield and backglass trim, exterior badges, rocker panel moldings, gas cap. The body was painted with Ford E4 red basecoat/clearcoat and the replacement body panels were painted prior to assembly. The wheels are classic style 15” American Racing Torque Thrust II with BF Goodrich tires. Engine: The engine the original rare D code stock 289 block and still has the generator instead of the alternator, which is a defining difference between 1964 1/2 Mustangs and 1965s. HiPo heads were purchased and added for extra engine power. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. During restoration it was pulled out, taken apart, sandblasted, painted, and new parts were added including Edelbrock performer cam, intake manifold, and carburetor. The stock exhaust was replaced with Hedman shorty headers and a Magnaflow dual exhaust with an x-pipe. A Mustang chrome engine dress-up kit was added to the engine that includes air cleaner, air filter and valve covers. The engine bay was sandblasted and painted prior to putting the engine back in. The brakes and steering are manual, but the brakes stop very well and steering is easy while the car is moving. Auction terms: The car is sold as-is. The car currently runs and drives fine, but no guarantees are made once the car is sold. As with any used car, new or old, many unforeseen issues can arise. The winning bidder is responsible for arrangement and cost of shipment/pickup. The winning bidder must pay a nonrefundable $500 downpayment within 24 hours of the auction close via Paypal and full payment within 7 days of the close of the auction. Full payment must be in the form of cash or bank-certified check that will have to be cleared with the bank prior to signing the car over. Email any questions, requests for additional information, or to arrange to see the car in person. On Apr-13-11 at 13:16:13 PDT, seller added the following information:There are a few minor known problems with this car: There is a slow leak in the rear driver side tire that just needs to be plugged. There is a brown wire that should be plugged into the starter solenoid. If it’s plugged in the car won’t start, but if it’s not plugged in, the car will start. The entire wire harness for the engine bay was replaced with a new one during restoration and a reproduction of the original wire diagram was purchased to make sure everything was correctly wired. The car runs fine without the wire plugged in, so it doesn’t appear to be necessary. It could be related to a component the car doesn’t have like air conditioning. Replacement door locks were installed on the car, but the body shop that painted the car and put the door skins on must have not put them on too tightly because they are loose. I don’t normally lock the doors anyway as I don’t take the car anywhere that I’ll be away from it for long. However, if you want to make sure they work every time, you’ll just need to pop the interior door inserts off and adjust them. Otherwise, there are no other known significant issues with the car. The car is sold as-is and no warranty of condition or performance for these or any other unknown issues. Make no mistake, despite what people claim, any used car older than 4 years or 40 years has the possibility of issues that may arise after purchase. Consider whether or not they’re actually telling you the truth or what they think you want to hear.On Apr-21-11 at 16:33:50 PDT, seller added the following information:One other issue with the car is that it has a very slow transmission fluid leak that is coming from the pan. A new seal was put on during the rebuild, but it must not have sealed completely. The leak is so slow I didn't bother to replace it and have to add fluid very rarely, less than once a year.
