At the top of nearly every list you will find one ornery Texan, Carroll Shelby, and his fantastic reinterpretation of Ford’s Mustang. More desirable yet are the big block cars, and this gorgeous Acapulco Blue example here is both. This is a numbers matching car and owned by the same family who took delivery over 40 years ago. This rare classic has everything from raw power to a refined interior to the ultimate in name recognition - Shelby. More than that, this is the 1968 Shelby Ford Mustang GT500 KR "King of the Road" ; “Barn Find”. Sitting under the Ram-Air hood is the car's factory equipped powerful 428CID V8 Police Interceptor engine - rated at 335HP. It is matched up to its tough as nails four-speed transmission, which pushes the power to the 3.00 traction lock rear axle to both wheels. Power steering makes the car light on its feet while the front power disc brakes brings you to a sure quick stop. The factory A/C will keep the interior cool on those hot summer days. This GT500 KR exterior is all original. The Marti Report shows that this car is 1 of just 125 68’ Fastback KR Shelby’s equipped with a/c. This car was produced on July 16th, 1968 (two days ahead of schedule): Description: This is a real numbers matching 1968 Shelby GT500 KR (Marti Report). It is still titled in the original owners family name. The car was built with the following: 428CI Police Interceptor V8 Four Speed Manual Transmission Exterior paint: Acapulco Blue Interior: Black Decor Bucket Seats GT Equipment Group Sport Deck Rear Seat Visibility Group (light package) Power Steering Power Front Disc Brakes Tilt-Away Steering Wheel Air Conditioning AM Radio Tinted Glass Tachometer and Trip Odometer Clock This car is almost all original and is unmolested. I believe the radiator is not original. I do have the original Heat Shield (not shown in the engine picture). The car is solid except for the battery tray area and the passenger side front floor. All of the rails and torque boxes are original and solid. All of the body panels are original to the car and it does not appear that this car has not been in any accidents. The car seems to have had one paint job. This car needs a full restoration. As a GT 500 KR with A/C, this is a rare find that once restored, may be worth in the $200K range. It is rare to find such an original “Barn Find” in such great condition. History: When Shelby was done with modifying this 1968 mustang, there were a pile of changes from the specific bodywork to the rollover bar to the Goodyear Speedway tires to the Stewart Warner ..green line.. gauges in the center stack. Completed, it went to East Tennessee Motor Company in Knoxville, TN then it was shipped to Chattanooga where the current owners family have had it until now. I have most of the service records through the 1970’s up to 1984. I have the original temporary Ownercard. This was to identify the car/owner for warrantee work for the car.
