Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE GM HISTORY The year was 1973. In April of that year, HIGH PERFORMANCE CARS magazine featured a SD-455 GTO on the cover and was named “Car of the Year”. GM only built 2 prototypes of this car and both were Ascot Silver with M-20 4-speeds. Some of the other options included were blacked out grill; dual hood scoops; optional (functional) ram air; super suspension; GTO identification; moon styled hubcaps with GOODYEAR Polyglas G-60/15 raised white letter tires; chrome duals and seven-inch wheels. The base engine was a 400 four-barrel but you could option the supermarket 455-inch four-barrel and the King of the street Super Duty 455-inch (SD-455). 1973 SD-455 GTO RECREATION I went to extreme lengths to recreate this car as with the exact detail like General Motors PONTIAC Division did in 1973. I searched and found a 1973 GTO (VIN 2F37Y3P338686) with paint code Ascot Silver (Code-64) and model GTO Performance Package (Code-W-62) and even with a 455CID (L-75) to begin this project. All motor components are authentic SD castings and correct era date codes for a 1973 built car, with the exception of the block which is 1974 Super Duty 4-speed block (Code- W8 Part #490132). This was a 5 year ROTISSARY restoration project with no expenses spared! Every nut & bolt has been replaced on this car. The car has approximately 525 miles on it since its restoration.
