If you meet this criteria and would like to place a bid, please send your name, address, email address, phone number AND your eBay ID name to me through the "Ask a Question" link. I will get back to you with an approval or disapproval within 24 hours. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS MADE DURING THE LAST 12 HOURS OF THE AUCTION - So, don't wait until the last minute to ask for permission to bid. For those with 50 feedback (or more) and above a 98% positive rating - GO FOR IT! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BID! Sorry about this requirement folks. Scammers, dirtballs, scum and lowlifes in general have made it nearly impossible to sell vehicles on eBay by placing "ghost" bids just to try and discover the reserve prices; or, worse yet to try and actually scam the seller into sending them the car without approved payment. I won't allow this to happen with my auctions. This small approval process has seemed to help in the past and I will continue with it until proven otherwise. 1964 MERCEDES-BENZ 300-SE 2-DOOR COUPE 84,000 ACTUAL MILES (The dash gauges are metric, so the 5-digit odometer reads approximately 34,500 - meaning 134,500 kilometers). NOTE: There may be more miles/kilometers accumulated by the time the new owner takes possession. WHITE with TAN/BEIGE Full-leather interior. About 459 of these 300SE Coupes were produced for 1964. Approximately 50 remain driveable on earth today. Many were used for racing. Hence, the low survival rate. Ahead of it's time, this Mercedes has Independent AIR SUSPENSION and a factory manual SUN ROOF! German specs. M-189 inline 6-cylinder engine. 185 horsepower. Automatic 4-speed transmission. Weight: 2915 pounds. MSRP in 1964: DM 31,350.00 (Approximately $10,000.00) Comparison prices of the time: Corvette: $4,627.00; Cadillac Coupe deVille: $5,191.00; Lincoln: $6,215.00; Imperial: $6,250.00; Jaguar XKE Coupe: $5,920.00; Ford: $2,586.00; Chevy: $2,590.00. DOCUMENTATION/PROVENANCE: This car came to the USA in 2005 from Germany and was restored at a cost of over $40,000.00. Included with the car are the following: Copies of - 1964 Mercedes-Benz DATA CARD and translation The 2003 GERMAN TITLE (Fahrzeugbrief) in the name of the person who brought it to the USA in 2005 The BILL OF LADING showing the car's entry to the USA. US Dept. of the Treasury DECLARATION FOR FREE ENTRY to the USA. WASHINGTON STATE Registration showing GERMANY as the Previous Title. Certificate of Translation 2005 WASHINGTON TITLE 2010 NEW YORK REGISTRATION And, of course, the original - free and clear - FLORIDA TITLE. And, all the manuals, books and document holders you see in the photos. (They came with the car); and all keys (ignition, doors, glove box, trunk and the original locking gas cap). This was a birthday present for my wife last year. Unfortunately, due to market conditions, we must sell it to help save for a down payment for a house. These are the type of life decisions being made by we, who choose to work - instead of living off the government (hence, the taxpayers) - during these troubling times in our country today. MAINTENANCE: When we took delivery of the car last year, the first thing noticed was the coolant leaking from underneath. We were very lucky to find a seller on eBay liquidating his M189 engine parts. He just happened to have a NEW OEM water pump. Usually, these water pumps cost anywhere from $900 to $1200. But, we bought it for $600.00. Then, spent another $700+ to have it installed by a professional. (Along with transmission service; new plugs; and an overall check up). ALSO, I just recently installed a new fuel hose under the hood. That's all we've done mechanically. It runs great and will travel above highway speeds. Smooth driving everywhere! (Maintenance records are included with the car) QUIRKS: I will never profess any car (including brand new ones right off the showroom floor) to be perfect. This is no exception. This is a great show car. Will turn many heads, win many trophies at local, regional and perhaps, national car shows. And, I'm sure that it would be a great car for everyday use if you choose to do so. BUT, in the past year since we've owned it, here are some of the quirks noticed: REMEMBER to ensure that the Air Suspension valve is closed when you park the car overnight. Otherwise, the system will release all the air (as it was designed to do) and the body will settle to about 2" from the ground and look like a "LOW-RIDER" when you see it the next morning. Of course, after you start the engine, the air pump under the hood only takes a few minutes to raise the car back up to normal height. (The Air Suspension valve knob is located just above the hood latch under the dash to the left. Just remember to keep it pushed all the way in.) This scared me when I first saw it, having never had an Air Suspension car. While in reverse, the brakes will sometimes grab a little bit and make a noise. Nothing major. Just wanted to mention it. Probably needs some kind of adjustment. They work fine while the car is moving forward. Ensure the gear shift handle is in the absolute UP position when placing the car in PARK. Otherwise, the car will roll if on a hill or slanted pavement because it will still be in NEUTRAL. The steering wheel moves telescopically about 1/8" (one-eighth of an inch) or so. When it's in the "UP" position, the horn doesn't work. When it's in the "DOWN" position, the horn works fine. But, sometimes the horn will sound when the wheel is turned to the left or right when in the down position. (I don't know if this is a safety feature or an electronical short circuit. Any help from a Mercedes aficionado?) APPRAISAL/CONDITION: Here is my honest appraisal of each component of this car. I'll rate each component from 1 to 6. A One (1) rating would mean "ABSOLUTELY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY"; a Three (3) would mean "FUNCTIONING PROPERLY" or "AVERAGE WEAR"; a Six (6) would mean "JUNK" or "NEEDS REPLACEMENT". BODY: 1.5 - Straight as an arrow. Paint is well-done with only a few stress lines located in the typical places around the grill on the hood; and a few other hard to see places. (See photos). There are a few chips (about 1/4") near the top of the driver's door (see photos). These can most likely be touched up (including the stress lines). I just never took the time to do it. Solid structurally. Built like a tank. The doors close with a slight push and all you hear is the "chumph" of a perfectly aligned door properly closing against the inner pliable weatherstripping. Doors lock properly with the key. CHASSIS/FRAME: 2 - Again, straight as an arrow. Solid. No breaks or cracks. No rust (other than typical surface haze - that could be wiped away with a shop rag - picked up while in New York for a year by the previous owner.) INTERIOR: 1.25 - BEAUTIFUL! And it smells TERRIFIC! This is OEM Mercedes Benz FULL LEATHER interior (NOT vinyl). The aroma is mesmerizing. Dark brown carpets are in excellent shape. The RADIO WORKS!!! The CLOCK WORKS!!! The light comes on when you open the glove box. The map light works. The Cigarette lighter works. The fan blower works. The wipers work..........In fact, I can't think of anything that doesn't work. (Wait, just thought of something: I have never figured out how to turn on the fog lights. So, there's a project for the new owner.) The real wood trim around the dashboard is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. There are a few cracks here and there. But, overall it displays well and holds a nice shine. The steering wheel has the typical age patina lines (see photos). I, personally, think it gives the car character. The passenger seat is missing one small knob that goes on the end of the inner seat release. (This is the handle that you move to lean the seat forward, so that someone may get into the back seat from the passenger door). You can't see it when it's not in use. The handle works perfectly. Just missing that little black knob on the end of it. Package shelf is beautiful. Headliner looks excellent and in great shape except for one small 2" tear near the sun-roof handle (see photos). Glove box locks properly with the key. For a 47-year old car, the interior is EXCEPTIONAL. CHROME and STAINLESS: 3 - The bumpers are beautiful and shine like the Stanley Cup. The rear bumper has a few small spots on it where it appears a few specks of chrome have flaked off (see photos) each about 1/2". Some chrome pieces are worn or weathered. They function just fine. But, if you want this to be a #1 show car, they should be replated. Such as the door handles; side view mirror; vent window frames; fog lamp housings. Otherwise, these are excellent just as they are. The grill, hood ornament and emblem are beautiful. Some scratches on the windshield and backlight trim. Hubcaps have a few scratches here and there. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE TRAIN and ENGINE COMPARTMENT: 3.5 - The engine runs strong. Yes, it does leak a few drops of oil every other day or so. But, it's never been enough for me to add any to the crankcase because of it. I've never seen any black smoke other than at intial startup. So, I would say that it doesn't burn oil. Transmission shifts properly. Not as smooth as you would be used to in today's cars. But, it works as it was designed. Engine compartment appears as though it's never been cleaned. So, this is where I would normally give the car a 3 in this area. But, because it looks dirty - and I like to show off engines at car shows - I've dropped the overall rating to a 4. The battery is not OEM and it's missing the original battery hold-down. Therefore, a hold-down strap is used to keep the battery in place. The windshield washer reservoir should be attached to the battery hold-down. But, since there isn't one, it is simply resting comfortably near it. It doesn't move while driving. Just doesn't look right. Basically, a little elbow grease in this area is all that is needed. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: 1.5 - neat and clean with all parts present. Spare tire in great shape - plenty of tread and holds air. Jack and tools present. Tire chuck present. Still has the original Jack instructions (in Multi-languages) attached to the inside of the deck lid. The trunk lid opens and closes with ease and has a good seal. The only concern here is that the lid won't stay in the open position on it's own. When the trunk lid is placed in the up position, then released, it hesitates for a second, then, closes on it's own. So, the springs are working a little bit. It's just that they seem a bit weak or need adjustment. The original rubber trunk mat is present with a few age cracks here and there. Trunk locks properly with the key. Overall in excellent condition. TIRES, WHEELS, BRAKES, SUSPENSION: 1.5 - The Air Suspension ride is fantastic! It's like riding on a cloud when driving this car. Tires have about 60% tread remaining. Wheels are in great shape. Brakes work fine except for my previous note about when backing up (see above under Quirks). Smooth drive with no pulls either way. Aligned properly. My overall rating for this car would be a SOLID 2. It's an excellent show car that would rate well above "driver" quality. But, to be near a #1 condition "trailer queen" the engine compartment and chassis would need to be detailed at minimum. NOT INCLUDED: The front German license plate and, of course, the rear Florida plate. Well, that's it. Bid away. Be the new owner. You'll love this car. And, I'll make this promise, as I do with any car that I've sold in the past: IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER OF THIS CAR AND DECIDE TO NOT BUY IT AFTER SEEING IT, I WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY. Now, keep in mind that I won't pay for shipping in any case and you must make your decision within 10 days of the end of the auction - regardless of when you take delivery. So far, I've never had to refund anyone's money and they've all been happy with their vehicles. I am not, nor have I ever been a dealer. My wife and I are simply people who love old cars and their histories. We buy them - take them to car shows - maintain them like they were our children. Then, ultimately, we grow tired of them and desire a different one, or need money to buy a house (such as in this case) so, we sell them to the next lover of old cars. Feel free to call with questions, or to schedule a test drive, or have your mechanic come inspect the car anytime: Dr. B - 863-899-9115 A $500.00 deposit is required within 24 hours after the end of the auction via Paypal. The remainder of the payment is to be made in FULL in cash or other acceptable method agreed upon between the buyer and seller before the car and title will be transferred to the new owner. There will never be an exception to this rule. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BIDS! Paypal payment must be received within 24 hours of the auction's end date unless otherwise coordinated with us beforehand. *****NOTE***** If payment is not received within this time frame, an UNPAID ITEM DISPUTE WILL BE FILED WITH EBAY through their Resolution Center.
