Vehicle Detail
Hi Everyone and WELCOME to my listing ! For your consideration, I offer an (always garaged ) 1965 Ford Thunderbird with the ORIGINAL DRIVE TRAIN and $10,000 in recent repairs/restoration. (I'm listing this car for my friend, Jon, who does not have an Ebay account. His father bought the car in Iowa in 1965.) Although the car is very clean, there are some minor cosmetic issues which I will document with pictures later in the ad. That aside, she RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE A DREAM and will surely turn heads gliding down the road! This classic beauty is equipped with the following: 390 V8 Engine (original, rebuilt with numbers matching) Automatic transmission (original unit) Power steering Power brakes Bucket seats with console Swing Away Steering Wheel Original AM radioOriginal Thunderbird wheels and hubcaps with a set of BRAND NEW TIRES Sequential Turn signals In the past 4 years, Jon has invested nearly $10,000 to make his late father's beauty mechanically sound. Some of the repairs/upgrades include: 4 BRAND NEW TIRES (including the spare), a complete new braking system, new gas tank, new fuel pump, and new battery. (Receipts are available upon request). MECHANICAL CONDITION: The original (300 HP 2 barrel) 390 V8 starts right up, idles nicely and runs smoothly. The transmission shift smoothly-with no slippage noted. The engine was rebuilt at about 100K. Also, the carburetor was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago.The car is garaged (and always has been) and there are NO drips of any kind. Mechanically, the car is solid with no known repairs needed. After recently taking the car on an extended test drive, I wouldn't hesitate to drive her anywhere! The only thing I noticed was that the car only starts when the shifter is in neutral. Jon tells me the car has always been started that way. COSMETIC CONDITION: The interior is all ORIGINAL (including the AM radio) and in very nice over all condition. The door panels do show some cracking (see pics). Externally, the car was originally gold and was professionally re painted many years ago. The frame is very solid with only typical light surface rust noted (see pics). There is a small crack in the upper center part of the windshield which occurred years ago when the rear view mirror came loose (see pics). (It does not affect view.) Further, there is some very light sand-able surface rust in the trunk (see pics) (**Note the original jack in the photo). Also, the bottom of the driver's fender has some worn paint (see pics) and the car has a few additional minor cracks in the paint. Overall, the older cosmetic restoration shows minor wear but presents beautifully. That's about it. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. The car is currently registered and insured and is located in Lynbrook, New York. Please read below for more facts regarding the 1965 Thunderbird: Fourth generation (1964–1966) Main article: Ford Thunderbird (fourth generation) 1965 Ford Thunderbird Convertible For 1964 the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car from the side or rear. Hinting at its roots in the previous generation Thunderbird that it was evolved from, the new model retained a similar grille design with dual headlights and a 113.2 inches (2,875 mm) wheelbase. As before, the new Thunderbird continued to be offered in hardtop, convertible, and Landau versions. The 300 horsepower (220 kW) 390 cu in (6.4 L) FE V8 continued as the standard engine for the Thunderbird while a higher compression, 330 horsepower (250 kW) version of the engine was optional. Both V8s were paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. For 1965, sequential turn signals were added, flashing the individual segments of the broad, horizontal tail lights in sequences from inside to outside to indicate a turn. Also new for 1965 were standard front disc brakes. Even though it was the last year of the generation, 1966 saw a stylistic revision for the Thunderbird highlighted by a new egg-crate style grille with a large Thunderbird emblem at its center and a new rear fascia with the brake lights restyled to appear as one unit. Engine choices were also revised for 1966. The base version of the 390 cu in (6.4 L) V8 lost 25 horsepower (19 kW) due to the use of a two-barrel carburetor in place of the previously equipped four-barrel carburetor. The optional version of the 390 cu in (6.4 L) V8, now equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor instead of two, produced 315 horsepower (235 kW). Newly optional and taking the top position for performance was a 345 horsepower (257 kW) 428 cu in (7 L) FE V8.[4] Thanks for your interest and God bless!
