Up for sale is a 1979 Jeep CJ 781,000 miles, automatic transmission with quadratec all time 4 wd, B&M Rachet shifter, suspension lift and body lift, 31" ties with American Racing rims, hard top. This sale is geared towards Rhode Island residents as the vechile was last registered there.I have the bill of sale and last registration for this Jeep...also an abstract form stating this vechicle does not require a title. You will have no problem registering this Jeep in RI. For other states on the other hand....I live in CT and for me to register it here the DMV or certified Vin inspector has to verify two vins attached to the car. This Jeep was obviously rebulit with several jeep parts...it actually has 2 different VIN's - the frame and firewall are to an 82 CJ...the interior dash and motor are from a 79 CJ. I'm in the process of getting assigned a new VIN number from RI so I can register it here in CT...but I'm waiting to hear back from the only inspector that assigns new VINs because RI doen't even require inspections on VINS older than 11 yrs old. So unless you want to jump through those hoops, or use this Jeep for parts...this auction is for RI residents. THE GOOD : This Jeep starts right up and idles great...I've been driving it on a temporary 10 day registration and its been very reliable. It shifts flawlessly, has plenty of power and generally runs great. The hard top is easily removable and so are the doors and windshield. It has a pretty tall lift of unknown height, it has 31" tires on it but looks like it could clear 33" tires easy. Pretty cool after market dash plate and console that is diamond plate. Pretty cool Jeep...I've been driving it around with the top off and get plenty of thumbs up in this classic. Pretty simple mechanics on this vechicle with plenty of new parts that I can see. Gets from point A to Point B . Great project. THE BAD : Its a Frankenstein car, with parts from multiple years...vin numbers could be a problem if you don't live in RI ( the vins were run by the CT inspector and its not stolen - either VIN)The Jeeps tub has some rust holes here and there that could use some patching or new sheet metal work. The Jeeps rear shocks are in need of replacement badly. The frame looks pretty solid and has been repaired in the rear at some time...under further inspection the rear sections behind the shocks are rusting from the inside out....could need to be reinforced soon. Needs a new valve cover gasket. Inspector said the brakes have a compression fitting at the master cyclinder which is a no-no and should be changed. None of this was told to me when I bought it but I'm honest and am trying to disclose everything I know about it to the next owner. This Jeep is driveable 'as is' but could use some work all around - which should be considered before bidding. You can buy almost every single part from catalog or online. Lowball offers need not waste your time or mine....you can't touch a parts Jeep for under $1,000 let alone a running ,driveable one. 860-917-2957 anytime , call or text.
