Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE We have a lot of time, effort and money into listing this motorcycle on ebay. Please be respectful of that and do not bid until you have read the entire description/terms of the auction and are certain that you intend to follow through with the sale. Your bid is a contract to buy. We have the listing set up to accept bids only from US bidders in an effort to prevent scammers from ruining the auction. If you are a legitimate bidder outside of the US and you have a way to have the bike picked up at our location without it being crated, e-mail Chris at chris@motoworkschicago.com. Provide him with your ebay ID and confirm that you can arrange international shipping and have the bike picked up uncrated at our location in Chicago, and he will add you to the list that allows you to bid. Up for auction is an original, unrestored 1969 BMW R60US that has barely been ridden since undergoing a thorough mechanical refresh performed by us, Motoworks. We specialize in vintage BMW repair, and we know how to give them a proper massage that makes them run and ride exactly the way they were designed to. The R60US is one of the rarest of the /2 Beemers. These bikes were imported in very small numbers in 1968 and 1969, with total world production at 1,879 units, all of which were exported to North America. As the US was the primary export market for BMW in the 1960s, we received some /5 technology a couple years early in the form of the front end on the US model. The telescopic damping rod fork supplied on the US model offers much greater performance than the Earles fork models. If you are looking for a rare /2 to own and ride, this is the way to go. The only downside is that the US models cannot easily accept a sidecar as the Earles fork models can. This is an amazing bike to ride. Great handling, decent brakes, good power, and a smoothness that was decades ahead of its time. If you have not ridden a /2, I would urge you to find an opportunity to do so, as there is nothing like it. This is an unrestored, original bike. The gentleman that we purchased her from had owned her since 1973. He bought the bike as a 4 year-old used bike and rode her through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. As he got on in years, he quit riding her about ten years ago. The owner and I had a mutual friend who introduced us, and we purchased her. Cosmetically, she needed nothing. And other than the mechanical things that we renewed, she looks just like she did when we purchased her. She had been sitting for a decade and, given how nice she is, we spared no expense on the mechanical restoration. Things that we took care of include a mechanical and fluid tune-up that consisted of the following: Renewed engine oil Renewed trans oilRenewed final drive oilSet ignition timingSet point gapAdjusted valvesSynched carbsRenewed spark plugsRenewed intake air cleaner elementChecked and adjusted clutch operating clearanceGreased clutch cable nipple at top and bottom pivot pointsGreased center stand pivotsChecked brake system connections and cablesChecked drums and shoes for wearChecked brake drums and shoes for correct operationChecked front and rear wheel bearingsChecked swing arm bearing playTorqued cylinder head nutsChecked end play at valve rockersChecked play at steering head bearingsChecked battery acid levelAdjusted throttle and choke cablesChecked torque on engine mounts, suspension strut mounts, center stand pivots, and exhaust system mounts In addition to the tune-up, we: Renewed the spark plug wires and capsRenewed the batteryPerformed a full carb rebuild including new o-rings and float bowl gasketsRenewed the front and rear tiresRenewed carb intake manifold bootsPerformed a full front end rebuildRenewed the gripsRenewed the foot peg rubbersRenewed the clutch cableRenewed the throttle cablesInstalled a new hornInstalled a new mirrorInstalled a new turn signal switchInstalled a Denfeld solo seat This adds up to a $2,860 service. We have a detailed itemization that includes part numbers and pricing, and will gladly e-mail that to a serious bidder upon request. Keep in mind that this was a very nice bike when we started; we just wanted to make sure that she got the love and attention that she deserved. This bike is mechanically awesome. The video speaks for itself, she is a one-kick bike that needs nothing. Cosmetically, she is not perfect but she is extremely nice. She has a few very minor flaws to let you know that she's paid her dues, but she’s so nice that it's hard to believe she has never been restored. I would rate her to be a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. She is by far the cleanest original R60US that I have ever seen, and is surely one of the finest examples of this rare machine that you will find anywhere in the world. There is a small amount of damage on the rear fender where the two place touring saddle was mounted. We still have that saddle and will include it for an additional $100 to the winning bidder, should you desire it. There is a small amount of acid damage near the battery tray. The mufflers and headers are original and are in amazing shape. There are a few small touched-up scratches on the front fender. The patina of the aluminum is PERFECT - this has never been polished or molested in any way. The wheels and spokes are in near perfect shape. The original air pump is included. There is a small paint chip on the tail light can. Look at the detailed pics and the video. They tell the story. She is not perfect, but she is an amazing example of a rare and desirable machine that is ready to take you anywhere your heart desires. There is a three minute video and 70 clickable thumbnails below detailing the condition of the bike. If you click on the pictures again after they open, they get even larger. Please look at all of them carefully and ask any questions you have before bidding. You can call Chris at 312-878-8711, e-mail him at chris@motoworkschicago.com, or contact us through ebay. The bike is located at Motoworks in the city of Chicago. If you are local and would like to see it in person, please call 312-878-8711 to set up an appointment. Shipping a motorcycle can be expensive, so be sure to look into it before bidding. The zip code is 60608 to help in figuring shipping. Our recommendation for a great shipper is Danny at D&K Services. He can be reached at 973-534-7823. If you are an Illinois resident, we must process the title and plate application for you (it is the same cost as if you bought it from a private party). If you are an Illinois resident or a resident of any of the states that reciprocate with Illinois on vehicle tax, we must collect sales tax on the vehicle based on the tax rate of your state. Winning bidder picks up in Chicago or arranges for/pays for all shipping/crating. We'll deliver, uncrated, to a local shipper for $150 extra. We'll deliver within 100 miles of Chicago for $1.50 per mile round trip ($20 minimum). $500 deposit via PayPal due within 24 hours of auction close. Remainder via one of the standard payment methods within seven days. No PayPal for remainder unless you contact us first. The bike is to be picked up within three weeks of auction close. $25 per week storage fee after that.View the video here: Click on the thumbnails below:
