Vehicle Detail
1986 VW Westfalia Camper. Automatic. Relisting due to previous buyer having a bit of bad luck and is unable to purchase the vehicle. 271k miles on odometer. Approximately 28k miles on rebuilt engine. 2.1L water cooled. Runs great. Automatic 3 speed shifts smooth. Well maintained. Passed smog in November and registration current. Clean title in my name. Very good body with no major damage - repainted 2 years ago. Interior is in excellent condition – very clean and no tears. Here is a list of the maintenance and improvements made over the past year: Replaced engine with a low mileage used motor which was taken from a well maintained van. There is a total of approximately 28K mile on the motor. New rear heater core. New tent top with 3 screens. New insulated stick on window curtains (Still have the original curtains if preferred.) New shocks, battery, rotors and brakes. I have a dual battery kit that has yet to be installed. New vinyl floor, moon roof and dash cover. All routine maintenance has been performed including transmission service, regular oil changes and brake power bleeding. Oil just changed (Castrol 20-50 ONLY) and the water tanks have been flushed. All of the mechanics, body, interior, and kitchen are in good working with the exceptions below: No propane tank attached. I have a used tank that came with the van but never had the need to attach it. The stove worked when tested with a portable tank. I use an oudoor stove. No key to the water filling spout. The lock has been removed and is easily replaced if you desire. AC does not work. All of the components are in place except for the compressor which I removed and will include with the van. The stereo does not work – I have not tried to fix it probably just the fuse. (I'll take a look at it and update the posting if repaired) Fridge latch is broken - the door can still be easily opened. The fridge works great using 120V and 12V. It has not been tested with propane. Front window seals whistle at freeway speed. One headlight is loose. I just noticed one small rust area along a stress crack on the sliding door. (photo to follow) Some of the minor items may be repaired by the time the van sells. Please bid with confidence. I have sold eight vehicles on ebay and never had a complaint. I enjoy working on toys and have spent many hours maintaining and improving the van. I try to list every flaw so the buyer expectations are met. The Westy is an awesome piece of engineering that will provide you with many happy memories. It has been extremely reliable and I would not hesitate to take it on a long road trip as it is. I have really enjoyed this van over the past year during my mini-retirement but now it is back to work, so it is time for a new owner.
