Vehicle Detail
2002 F-150 factory built CNG truck, 5.4 V-8, 7700 Payload Group, Extended Bed, Standard Cab, approximately 260,000 miles. This truck has been used as a commuter vehicle. The truck has many upgrades including custom seats, electric brake controller, drilled and slotted disk brakes, bed cover, tow package, and RV air bags over the leaf springs. The truck has been maintained including new U-joints, inner and outer tie rods, new shocks, and a new windshield. The transmission was rebuilt at 180,000. The truck has no fluid leaks. The tires are good, the A/C and heater work well, all of the instruments are operational, the brakes are good and the engine runs very smoothly. The body is in great shape with the exception of "ripples" on the passenger side. These are the result of a recent collision and the damage is entirely cosmetic. The truck was originally built with 3 CNG tanks, 2 in the bed and one below, these provided a range of 220 miles. To increase the range three more tanks were added in the bed, extending the range to 550 miles. These tanks have expiration dates of 2009, 2010 and 2012. I bought the extra tanks at various auctions, prices ranged from $40 to $85 each and I had the plumbing professionally installed. The fuel system has never leaked. The new owner will have to determine the significance of the expired tanks. Because CNG burns so clean (89% cleaner than gas) anything that gets past the rings is insignificant and the oil doesn't get contaminated. At 10,000 miles the oil is still golden. This, and other issues, contribute to the longevity of CNG engines. The truck will need continued maintenance but it still has a lot of life left in it. In California CNG fuel hovers around 30% below the cost of gasoline, sometimes more, sometimes less. My home fueling costs 77 cents a gallon. The truck has served me well but I'm replacing it with a new Honda Civic CNG. Feel free to submit questions.
