Vehicle Detail
The Good: This gorgeous and rare 57 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop Sport Sedan features: · 283 Cubic Inch V8 Engine · Powerglide automatic transmission · 61,500 original miles The Bel Air 4 door Hardtop design has no center post that rises between the front and rear seats, giving this particular model a classic low, streamlined look – especially when the windows are down. The two tone turquoise body with white hardtop, and whitewall tires make this car look perfect from 20 feet away. In the past 12 years that I have owned the car it has been pampered and garaged, and I’ve put over $7,500 of professional repairs and restoration into it. The car was appraised at over $10,000 20 years ago in 1991, before that work was done, by Bob Taylor’s Classic Auto http://www.classic-auto.com/sales.aspx. This car is almost entirely original, upgrades and non-original parts include: · Front end rebuilt (replace ball joints, etc.) · Power disc brake conversion · Gas tank, and fuel line replacement · Distributor replacement This work was done by Classics by Steve of Emeryville, CA http://www.classicsbysteve.com/. A previous owner had some body work done and put some fiberglass in the rear quarter panels, and had the car painted. Tires have plenty of tread left and are fairly new, I would estimate they have less than 1000 miles on them. VIN Number: VC57J269783 The Bad: The car starts fine, but idles rough and has some hesitation at low speeds. At highway speeds it’s fine. The fuel gauge doesn’t work correctly. The speedometer swings around intermittently. The interior dome light doesn’t work. There is some play in the steering – although that may simply be typical of cars of the period. Needs a new oil dipstick. There is a dime size chip in the windshield. The Ugly: While the car looks perfect from 20 feet away, there is some pitting on some of the chrome, particularly on the rear bumper assembly. There is some flaking paint on the rear body around the trunk, there is some bubbling paint on the front quarter panels. There are numerous pencil tip size chips in the paint. There are minor condensation / moisture markings on some of the interior fabrics. The upholstery seams for the seat of the driver’s seat are beginning to split. Extras: Winning bidder will also receive: · Car cover · The original 4 wheels from prior to the disc brake conversion · A few extra pieces of trim · Some spare parts (ball joints, valve lifters, gasket kit) · Chilton’s Auto Repair Manual 1954-1963 · Chevrolet 1957 Passenger Factory Assembly Instruction ManualOn Feb-21-11 at 19:32:42 PST, seller added the following information: Update - The speedometer makes a loud squealing sound when it is swinging around. Update - There is some pitting / rust on the front bumper assembly.
