Only 5,555 of them were Deluxe Phaetons. An attractive and sporting open car with room for a family, the phaeton was fast losing ground to the less stylish but much more practical sedans which, in deluxe trim alone, outsold phaetons by more than 35 to one. The trend was clear: Ford built 6,073 Phaetons in 1935, 5,555 in 1936, 3,723 in 1937 and 1,169 in 1938, its last year in Ford’s catalog.
