1970 Mercedes 280 SL Pagoda Roadster Coupehardtop & soft top (will post pictures) W113 Chassis 72,593 Miles The previous owner of this 280 SL bought it to do a full restore but ran short on time. She kept the car garaged and didn't touch it until we bought it. As far as we know, the car has all original parts except maybe a few wear items. We have used mostly genuine parts for the wear items. We had our mechanic work on it and then gave this car a thorough tune up ( Bosch plug wires, plugs, gas filter, transmission fluid & filter). The car has a matching white hardtop and a soft top (I will look at the color and post pics later). The engine runs strong. The paint job is still good though there are a few chips (wait for pics). The leather looks good to me but there are a few rips in the driver seat. The previous owner bought the leather to replace the interior which will be included. The hood is missing two hinges to attach to body of the car. I am actively looking for these right now. This does not affect performance at all. We have a Becker stereo that is original to the model and will install it. I am not sure if the a/c works. The power steering seems a bit tight but I am not sure if it is working as it should; otherwise, you're getting a beautiful car at a very good price compared to others I've seen listed. It's hard to find a car with mostly original parts and paint! We'll be doing some restoration on the car but not much since it's in great condition. **If you spend more money on it, we may raise the price so please take note. The ride is unbelievable. On Feb-13-11 at 18:36:31 PST, seller added the following information: The driver's floor has rush because the top corner seal of the window is not tight. We wised up and bought a car cover. With the exception of a few sparse places underside does not show signs of rust because it has a black protective coat. The corners of the hood have paint chips. The paint appears to be original. Soft top is brown like interior and hardtop is white.On Feb-16-11 at 12:24:09 PST, seller added the following information: Hi all bidders. Please have your cash, cashier's check or even paypal. From looking at the car again, there are two dimple size dents on the hood (pictures shortly) and the drive side floor is rusted due to water. I'll get a closer picture. It looks more like surface rust. The trunk has some surface rust too. The driver's seat has a few tears. Will upload pics. The previous owner told us everything was original. She bought the leather (not sure what material it is) to replace the entire interior- I think the interior looks great with the exception of that tears in the driver seat. Here are a few things that I've noticed:1. Power steering- I don't think the power steering works. I notice that after a drive the fluid from the reservoir comes out. 2. Engine cranks on nice. 3. Transmission- The car drives like its more a race car than luxury (It shifts like a race car). The car is an auto but when it's at low speed it feels like its in first gear. Once you get to higher speed 20+MPH, it shifts in the gears and feels smooth. That's my best assessment. I am not a mechanic or an expert at these cars. I don't have a good gauge of it since I've only driven current Honda's and Toyotas.4. Hood- I was able to find the hinge piece that attaches the hood to the body of the car. The stick to prop up the hood is missing (if there is one). 5. The floor of the driver side is rusted. We think this is because of the gap in the seal of the driver side window. This seal will need to be looked at by the new owner. The passenger side floor has a thick layer of foil tape or something. Look at the pics. 6. Original Parts- I was asked to list what parts where original and which were after market. As far as I know, the car is basically original. A few things that may not be original: speakers, spark plugs (ngk), distributor cap & rotor. That's all I can think of right now. 7. The previous owner intended on reupholstering the interior so she ordered the leather (or whatever material it is). We will include this with the purchase.
