Vehicle Detail
Looking for a new home is a 1967 Mustang Convertible with a 6 Cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. The car is complete and will run and drive around the yard. The brakes will need a good check of all 4 drums before summer driving. The engine has a new carburetor, distributor cap, points, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires and exhaust system. It starts easily and idles good. The bottom of the oil pan got smashed a little bit - you can't complain about free helpers - which needs to be repaired or replaced before driving on the road. It got smashed against the oil pickup tube enough that the engine has erratic and/or low oil pressure now. The dash pad, gas cap and carpet were also new but the carpet has since develpoed some stained and faded areas. It will need to be dyed again for uniform color. The windshield, vent windows, door glass and 1/4 windows are all good. The manual top raises and lowers properly but there is no material on it anymore. Overall the body is pretty good. I would go so far as to say it is above average for a Mustang Convertible but it will still need some major repairs. First and foremost it will need both rear 1/4 panels. The car had one repaint from new and during that first repaint the 1/4 panels were replaced - and very poorly. Someone literally laid new panels over most of the original 1/4 panel rather than proper triming and welding. The passeger side 1/4 panel was the worst part of the whole car and I was going to put a 1/4 panel skin on it. After removing the old panel, paint and filler I noticed that moisture had sneaked under the thick body filler that was trawled on and now the upper portion of the 1/4 panel was rusted by the chrome molding. Picture of the damage is included. Both 1/4 panels were "repaired" the same way so I'm sure the drivers side is in similar condition. In summary both 1/4 panels need replaced with FULL 1/4 panels, not skins. The outer wheel house and trunk drop off on both sides will also need repair/replaced. The rear frame rails are good. The floor pans were also repaired and a completely functional job was performed. They are not cosmetically pretty from the bottom side of the car but I was going to leave them. The inner rockers look fantastic from the top as well but from under the car the bottom flat surface is rusted away most of the length of the rocker. I was going repair them myself since the car is still structually sound. I was also going to repair one torque box and replace the other. The drivers side front frame rail has some rust starting - pic included and the pass side under the battery is solid. I think the opening bid is a very good deal for a car that is complete, runs, drives and has never been in a major accident that hurt the body structurally. The good body was the main reason I purchased the car. My plan was to convert the car to a V8. If the new buyer is interested in this same route I have lots of parts that I would be glad to make a super deal on for some extra $$. The following parts are not included in the auction. I have a core 351W engine, a good C4 trans that came out of a running Mustang. I think it has a shift kit in it. I have a new V8 AC radiator, complete front drum brakes for a 5 lug, the engine compartment from a 390 Mercury Cougar with it's complete front suspension and engine mounts. I also have a set of Cragar SS wheels and tires for the car. They are 17 X 8 with 235 45R17 Fusion ZR1 tires. There is also a 1968 Mustang Coupe parts car that has a trunk completely full of 67-68 parts and the interior is full of parts. I will make a package deal on EVERYTHING or if you need some 67 - 68 Mustang Coupe Convertible or Fastback parts please give me a call. 573-230-6222 Paul. I would like the vehicle paid for in full within 2 weeks of the end of the auction. I am completely flexible with the actual vehicle pick up time. Thanks for lookin'
