Vehicle Detail
Hi there, I'm auctioning off this 88 wagoneer. A brief history of this vehicle. I bought this truck in 2006 to use as a camping truck. The motor was in parts in a box in the back. it had been disassembled by the previous owner while trying to sleuthe out the low oil pressure problems that these things are famous for. I purchased a new timing cover, new oil pump, and used the proper pump priming procedure on build to get it up and going. Runs between 40 to 80 pounds of oil pressure typically. I drove it for a few years as my daily driver, and never had any real problems with it other than typical parts breakage and maintainance. The previous owner worked in a suspension shop, and performed the lift there. he also swapped out the trans, transfer case, front and rear axles out of an '83 Cherokee at that time. He told me when I purchased it that there was 30,000 miles on the motor (a commercial rebuild. no paperwork) and approx 10,000 miles on the running gear (trans to axles, also no documentation other than the word of previous owner). I parked it about a year and a half ago because I was having ignition problems. I replaced everything I could think of. Switch, solenoid, cap, rotor, ECM, until I found the culprit, the pickup coil in the distributor. problem solved. Its always been a bit cold blooded, likes to warm up before driving, and while I always intended to put a manual choke on it, in the summer it started right up so I never needed it, and in the winter it was too cold to bother with. Pros: Parts replaced during my tenure as this thing's keeper. Radiator starter ECM ignition switch starter solenoid pickup coil wires other pros: Never had any problems at all with any of the running gear. creeper gear and all other 4 wheel drive stuff works great heat has always worked really well the frame and the lift performed look really solid, and the springs are STIFF. previous owner used the truck on sand dunes. its just cool.... Cons: windows are slow up and down, and usually need a little manual assist (typical for these) Though when last I checked the rear window still worked, though slowly. Drivers window is not hooked to any of the gearing. the motor burned up, and the window is now free floating. body is rusty. floors are rusted through in a couple spots. rear bumper is just tack welded on on one side, and not pretty. hood release cable broken. Hood can be opened manually from front by pushing on the release with a tire iron/chisel/big screwdriver etc... ignition tumbler busted. just needs replaced. currently I have a carpet cutter and a screwdriver to start it. (not to be confused with ignition switch, which is new) The exhaust is LOUD. it has a cherry bomb that is basically hanging up under there, against the exhaust. looks awful, but an easy fix. passenger rear door lock linkage frozen in 'unlock' position tailgate linkage frozen. I've gotten it open in the past with a long screwdriver, but haven't tried it lately, and it would probably take some practice and a lot of WD40 I'm happy to answer any other questions, email additional pics, I'll see about jump starting it to make sure it still starts and maybe even capture some audio/video. I'm going out to clean it out tomorrow morning, so if I run across any pertinent details I will update them here. I hate to get rid of it. I really like it, but I just don't have time or money to do it justice, and the parts in it that are good are worth a fair amount of money.
