Vehicle Detail

1973 Penton 125 ISDT Six Days AHRMA MX Trials Rare find 1973 Penton 125cc race bike. John Penton was one of the foremost innovators in modern motor cross / trials racing. While traveling in Europe Penton had a chance meeting with an engineer from the fledgling German company KTM. Penton gave KTM the specifications for a new lighter style competition motorcycle, which they would build and export to the USA for him. They came stock with the finest of equipment. Engine, Suspension and a purpose built frame. These bikes would outshine the factory competition for years to come. KTM eventually recognized Penton’s success and started manufacturing their own bikes. Penton trials machinery is well sought after for vintage AHRMA events and other forms of racing. This particular Penton has been in storage for twenty years and still has its Georgia/Florida State off-road stickers and a bit of trail dust. Everything about it appears perfect for an easy restoration. The Akront wheels with magnesium hubs and Ceriani forks appear straight and in good condition. The Sachs engine has no broken fins and the Bing carburetor is fully intact. I have not tried to get it running as of yet. The bodywork has some issues, but all this is easily and inexpensively found (I like the patina!). There is surface rust on various parts, but nothing structural. Chrome parts should be easily shined with steel wool. The speedometer is absent and tires have dry rot. The seat is in amazing shape! This is an excellent opportunity for a winter project. You can be up and running in the deserts by spring with little effort and $. I picked up a Rickman the day after I brought this home and would rather devote my time and cash to it. So if you’re looking for a weekend toy or a serious competition machine, this might just be your ticket. Item is sold as is, where is. Since it is an off-road vehicle it has no title. I can hold the bike for pick up, but the vehicle must be paid in full and it must be confirmed with me first. If you need shipping, USHIP.com has been very reasonable in the past. I will assist in any way possible. PayPal is fine, cash on pickup is fine too. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time...so don't wait to bid! Item must be paid in full within 7 business days from auction end regardless. Thanks! On Dec-31-10 at 13:06:52 PST, seller added the following information: Information Update 12/31/2010 -- Here are some additional details and information that I've been asked. Engine serial# - 7747675 / Sachs 1251/6D Frame VIN# - 407 75971 Airbox color is blue Forks are 35mm I had some daylight hours to look over the engine. Removing the head I expected the piston to be stuck, but found a smooth bore and free piston instead. I'm guessing that the crank bearings might be stuck or some other like issue. This is just a guess as I will leave the new owner to crack it open to find out the true reason. Thanks! On Dec-31-10 at 15:11:11 PST, seller added the following information: More photos added. Another question - The underside of the fork gaitors are clean.
