Vehicle Detail

1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 - $8500 RESERVE LOOKING FOR THE BEST ORIGINAL CRUISER AROUND? This gorgeous classic stock original 1971 FJ40 has only 105,300 original miles. This FJ40 is a true survivor. This is a well kept virtually rust free example of an extremely rare Land Cruiser. Everything works on this vehicle and is in excellent original condition. When you see it, it will be obvious that it has been well maintained. Please note it has not gone through a frame off restoration. It was a California vehicle until 2009 when I brought it to Colorado. This is our second FJ40 and my wife says it must go. She wants her garage parking spot back. Overall, this FJ40 is extremely clean; this is perfect for someone wanting a really nice and rare unit without spending the huge dollars to get a perfect restoration. Absolutely a collectable. Don't let this one slip by. This cruiser is a real head turner. VIN: FJ400111342 Engine: The engine, transfer case and transmission are original stock are in good condition and drive perfectly. The FJ40 is equipped with a 3 speed transmission and F motor with no leaks. I would encourage you to perform a compression check if you have concerns. The engine runs great. Somewhere along the line, the points were converted to electronic for great reliability. Also, it appears the exhaust system was replaced somewhat recently in its life. I replaced several aging rubber parts. It is mechanically sound and runs awesome. The classic three-on-a-tree is fun to drive. Mechanical: Brakes, emergency brake, steering, clutch, gauges, heaters, windshield washer, etc are all in working order. The cruiser runs, drives and stops as well. Body: It is very solid given its life as a California cruiser. The pictures show it well. The body is in excellent original condition. There is one area with a small dent and very small rust spot at the right rear corner where the previous owner touched up (see photo). I think this FJ40 is fine the way it is, but if you looking for perfection, here is a great start without the huge restored price. The windshield appears to be original and has rock dings, but in okay condition. The undercarriage is clean with very light surface rust on some of the frame members. See photos. The only things not factory on this FJ are the front bumper, an auxiliary backup light and winch. The front bumper is from Spector. At some point diamond plate steps were installed, but there is no evidence of rust. The winch is a 8,000 lb TX-2 with pistol grip remote control operator. The body is in great shape. You will be impressed. Paint: The paint is original factory Toyota Capri Blue code T310. The left rear corner was repainted, but does not appear to have evidence of rust. The rear lift gate hatch paint is thin in the lower left corner, but tough to see in the photos. Overall the paint is good and has character scratches. What would you expect for a 40 year old vehicle? Tires: The tires were purchased at 102,000 miles by the previous owner and now have a total of 3,000 miles on them. They are in excellent condition. Interior: The only things not factory on this FJ interior are the roll bar and headliner. The 1971 model was not factory equipped with a roll bar. It appears someone replace the factory headliner. The upper dash pad has an aftermarket cover. The front seats were reupholstered at some point in its life. It has the Toyota tool kit and I have a Hi-Lift jack to go with it. The interior is in great shape. Smog: Has all the required 1971 SMOG equipment for you California buyers. There is minimal SMOG equipment as the requirements were very limited in 1971. This FJ40 can go back to CA or another state with emissions requirements. Documentation: The original owner’s guide is in the glove box and a newer copy of the manual (see photos). There is good amount of documentation outlining the history of the truck from the previous owner and me. Auction: Feel free to test drive this vehicle. I reserve the right to end the auction early since it is for sale locally as well. I will include a Bestop bikini roof and half doors which are in like new condition along with a Con Ferr rear seat, if the vehicle is purchased at the “Buy It Now” price. The top, doors and Con Ferr seat ARE NOT included if the vehicle is sold below the “Buy It Now” price, the purchaser will have the option to purchase them all for $500. Terms: Please serious bidders only. I require PayPal $1000 down (non-refundable) within 48 hours of the auction ending and the balance due within 7 days thereafter. Balance shall be paid via cashier’s check, wire transfer or cash. Shipping: Buyer is responsible for pick up or delivery. This cruiser will drive across the US at 70 mph if you want it to. However, if you want to ship it, I have found AAA Advantage Auto Shippers to be good and cost effective. 800-733-0106. Don't miss out on this Land Cruiser. You WILL NOT be disappointed and it may be a long time until another one like this surfaces. At 105,000 miles it's barely broken in. Feel free to call with questions or if you want a specific picture. Denis 970-376-7396.
