Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a 1941 Buick Special that I just got on the road for the first time in over 30 years. My father purchased this car in 1977 when the car was licensed and being driven. It had been kept up over the years and consistently driven until my father bought it, soon after which it sat without being driven and almost without moving until 2 years ago when I removed it from storage. I have set the reserve at a very reasonable price so don't be afraid to bid. Mechanical: I have performed all of the necessary work to make the car driveable again, but there are a few things left that you may want to do to make it reliable for regular driving. Recently the car has had a new fuel tank installed, new battery installed, received new brake hoses and wheel cylinders, has had the starter rebuilt, fuel pump rebuilt, carburetor rebuilt, had new tires installed, and has had Pertronix electronic ignition installed to replace the points/condenser, and new coolant/antifreeze installed. The engine runs smoothly and quietly and has great oil pressure. I have only driven the car about 5 miles since getting it on the road again. It shifts well and stops great. All of the gauges work including speedometer, fuel, temperature, oil pressure, and voltmeter. All lights work including turn signals except driver rear (think it needs a bulb because it blinks fast in front). I have a key that I had the jiggle to get the trunk open with - I am not sure if this key fits the ignition as well; I didn't want to try to lock it in case I had trouble getting it unlocked again, but I just have turned it on and off without the key to be safe thus far. Body: The body is in very good shape overall. The car has been repainted once it looks like in the original colors (close anyway). It is not the greatest paint job and is weathered in places, but is presentable as a driver. The chrome ranges from good to very nice, except for the front bumper which is straight but rustier for some reason. The only evidence of any rust or repair on the topside of the body is the very rear rocker panel on the driver side where there is a small patch (only can tell looking under the edge near the trim). The outer rockers, doors, trunk, etc. all are very solid. On the underside, there are a couple places with rust. The main area is the inner rocker panels on each side, which are rusted through. The next is the spare tire well, which has a patch riveted in the bottom due to being thin. Last, the underside of the heater (as visable from underneath) is rusted through, but this is only bolted on with the heater and is flat so is therefore easily repairable/replaceable. The remaining underside is solid with surface rust only including all floorpans, trunk, frame, etc. Interior: The interior appears to be all original and is in exceptional condition for a car of this age. For a driver, it is presentable as it is. The steering wheel has a lot of cracks and the top of the back seat is taped (under rear window) because the stuffing was coming out. The rest of the upholstery is intact and in pretty good condition; a good cleaning would probably go a long way. As mentioned earlier, all of the gauges work and the original radio even plays!! Terms: Deposit of $500 must be received within 3 days of the auction's end. I'll accept Paypal, cash in person, or cashier's check or money order from a major U.S. bank. The remaining funds must be paid before the car is picked up and can be paid via cash in person, or cashier's check or money order from a major U.S. bank. Because of the holidays and the weather, the car can be picked up as late as January 8, 2011 unless other arrangements are made prior to the end of the auction.
