DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT PICK THIS CAR UP IN PERSON, AND PAY CASH, WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE END OF THE AUCTION! THIS CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY DRIVEABLE; YOU WILL NEED TO TOW OR TRAILER IT! 2003 Volkswagen GTI VR6 Parts Car 166,000 miles, clean title, current inspection (expires in May 2011) All loans/liens are paid in full and I have all supporting documentation from VW Credit Current mechanical condition: right now this GTI is not in a driveable state. First, the front left axle is broken. Second, the engine has a very noticeable vibration, from idle through the entire RPM range. My mechanic diagnosed this problem as a faulty flywheel, and the vibration is steadily getting worse (a week ago, it only happened between 1000 and 1400rpm). So, while you could probably put an axle in the car and drive it, who knows how long the flywheel will take before it's no longer functional. Finally, there is a coolant seepage in the engine; my mechanic assured me that there's very little risk of this becoming a catastrophic failure of the cooling system, and I haven't had to top off the coolant in a few weeks, but it's worth mentioning anyway. Current physical condition: ROUGH! The car is dirty inside and out. It's December and it's cold, so I didn't want to freeze to death in my driveway cleaning it. But dirt is a superficial problem. The real issue is that I'm a full-time eBayer, yard saler and trash picker, and I've basically been using this GTI as a dump truck for the past few years, hauling antiques, boxes of junk, old bicycles (sometimes 10 at once!) and occasionally, 1000+ pounds of scrap metal. You name it, I've put it in the back (or front) of this car, and the interior has taken an absolute beating. It's filthy. The driver's seat is worn from 166,000 miles of having my fat ass in it. The passenger seat is torn and dirty. The rugs are a mess. The headliner has so many marks, stains and tears that I don't think it can be salvaged. The left side panel is loose behind the driver's door. The dash is filthy. The CD player hasn't worked in years and the heads are dirty on the cassette deck. The AM radio has never gotten any stations and the FM reception has been terrible for about a year now. All of the plastic panels in the rear are scratched and gouged from all the crazy stuff I haul. With a ton of cleaning and detailing, it might look decent, but it'll never look nice. On the bright side, the bottoms (cushions) and headrests on the back seats, and the cargo lid, are all in excellent condition...because they've been in storage in my attic for the past six years! The exterior has its share of scratches, scrapes and dings too, but no major damage. Driving history: for the first 2.5 years, this car saw mostly highway miles, probably 40k or so. I don't drive slowly but I don't race, peel out or really beat on the car very much. For the next 2.5 years, the car saw maybe 50k local miles, going to (literally) thousands of garage sales. And for the next 2 years (2009 and 2010, especially) the car saw probably 75k+ hard stop-and-go miles as a full-time junk hauler. Accidents: not too long after I bought the car, a woman in a Land Rover backed into me. Her receiver hitch dented my hood and grille, so I had those replaced by a local body shop. Not too long after that, some kid who was high as a kite rear-ended me at a stop light. The right rear section of the GTI was basically demolished. Luckily he had insurance, and about $7k worth of body work later, I was back on the road. I don't know exactly what they did (it's all in the body shop report though), but I think they replaced the hatchback and right rear quarter, and did a bunch of other work. Thank you Progressive! And a while later, some guy in a pickup truck backed into me, ripping a hole in my front bumper. He had insurance too (Progressive again!) so the body shop replaced the bumper. Mechanical work: I don't really feel like poring through every receipt I have for this car (I'll give them to you, though) but off the top of my head, it had its catalytic converter replaced; a major AC line replaced; the AC compressor; the slave cylinder, clutch and flywheel (about 1.5 years ago); the entire transmission was replaced early last year; the rear axle was replaced (because I hit a curb and bent it, oops!); one front wheel is a replacement because the old one was cracked; the brakes have been done multiple times; the lower control arms were replaced recently; most of the suspension components have been replaced, like tie rods, axles (the one that just broke only had 20k on it), and strut bushings; the water pump was replaced last year; and so on. I've been reasonably vigilant about having the oil changed, usually at 3K intervals with an occasional lapse. The tires are pretty well-worn, due to the myriad suspension issues I've had to have fixed in 2010. Yes, this car has been a money pit over the past year or so! Final notes: I would drive this GTI forever, because it's a fun car, it has an amazing cargo capacity, and back in the good ol' days, before it was a trash-hauling rattletrap, it could do 125mph without breaking a sweat. But it just has too many problems, and it seems like the more money I throw at it, the more money it needs. To make it driveable right now I'd have to spend $1500+, and who knows what will fall apart next? I've driven this car since I bought it new in early 2003, it's served me well, but now I need to move on and buy a van. JUST TO BE CLEAR, THIS CAR IS SOLD AS-IS, FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY! Thanks, Dave On Dec-05-10 at 14:53:04 PST, seller added the following information: I've been getting lots of emails from people who think that they're going to fix the car in my driveway, or have someone fix it for them, and drive it home. THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. So DO NOT BID if you can't TOW or TRAILER the car. Thanks!
