Vehicle Detail
This is an '89 Ford Mustang LX, with the 5.0L V8 package and the optional GT interior. I have owned this car since 1993, and purchased it from Summit Ford with 88,000 km on the odometer. It now has ~256351 km, (159293 mi). I used the car regularly as my daily driver until 2001 when I started a garage restoration project which ended up lasting 'till 2004. Once that project was completed, I drove the car again until the summer of 2005. In June of '05 I moved, and left the car behind in my parent's place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am now living in Pennsylvania, and my father is eager to get this car out of his single car garage so he can park his own car in there. I do have a lot of history with the car, but have decided it is probably best for me to just sell it at this point. The car has been parked since 2005, and except for starting and moving it in and out of the garage, it hasn't been in any kind of regular use. The car runs very well, but does need some work before being put back into regular service. The brakes will probably need to be done all around - and all fluids changed. The battery is weak, but will hold a charge. Were I to hang onto the car, I would also replace the transmission crossmember - it basically a bracket with rubber isolators that supports the back of the tranny. It is rusted pretty badly, and should be replaced. The transmission and differential yolks leak oil and should be replaced, unless you just use a piece of cardboard under the car like I did. The engine is original and starts up perfectly, runs and idles well. The tranny and clutch are still strong. I had the 2nd gear ring done, and the clutch replaced around 170,000 km. The alternator is pretty new (~5000K). There cooling system and steering are solid. These are pretty simple cars, and isn't that much to go wrong compared with the cars of today. BTW, the car sounds great. The interior is still in nice shape, and has the grey cloth GT option. Has the power lumbar seats. It does not have a/c, or the power convenience package... so the windows go up and down by the good old fashioned method. There was an aftermarket radio there, but I removed that during the resto project, and never put it back. The harness for the stereo is there of course. The map light with the flexible arm is also missing... forgot to put it back in. Bidders should know that before I began the restoration project, there was a lot of rust on the car - I drove this all 4 seasons, and Toronto uses lots of salt in the winters. I did extensive metal repairs on the car body and floor pans, and sealed everything up. I did this work in my own garage so it sure isn't a perfect job, but I was going for simple and practical at the time. I only did the 'resto' because I planned to keep the car for sentimental reasons, certainly not because this could be turned into a show car! The paint job is the original red in a base/clear, and is good for the cramped conditions I was working in at the time - but again it sure isn't perfect by any means. There are a couple of clear coat runs that I never had time to fix etc. As the pictures show, it still looks pretty good. Just realize that there was a lot of body work done to repair the rust damage. It would be easy to get this car ready for the road again, for someone who wants a fun ride. Alternatively, if someone already has a 5.0 and needs to swap out parts, this would be good for that too. Anyone local is welcome to stop by my father's place and check out the car. Because of the soft brakes, I would recommend that the winning bidder have the car transported, but as I said it runs well. Your call on that one I guess. I have tried to be as honest as possible in the description - of course I cannot offer any kind of warranty on the car. If someone wants some specific pictures, I will ask my father to take them and get them to you asap. The ones uploaded to this auction were taken while I was up there this past summer. The car will have to be picked up at my father's home in Toronto, I have already signed over the ownership, and he has it in his possession. The winner will need to pay a $100.00 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours, and complete the transaction, arranging to pick up or transport the car within 15 days. The car can be paid for with US or Canadian funds on pickup... they are nearly at par now, so no issue either way. I have started the auction at $200.00 with no reserve - I figure I'll let the bidders decide what it is worth to them. In any case the highest bidder will definitely get the car. Good luck - be sure to email me with any questions!
