Vehicle Detail
The Basics For sale is a beautiful 1971 BMW 2002. This car was an impulse purchase I made only a few weeks ago, but I've decided that having a second car in downtown Washington, DC is too much of a hassle. I really regret selling it because this is one of the best 02's I've owned. It's a solid car that could be driven daily. All of the usual problematic areas -- shock towers, frame rails, A-pillars, wheel arches -- appear straight and rust free. The car has a clean Virginia title. Overall, I think this car will make the new owner very happy. Please feel free to contact Mike with any questions either via Ebay email or phone (703 582 3367). The auction does not have a reserve price. Once you've won the auction and made the deposit via PayPal, please contact me to arrange to pick up the car and make final payment. Exterior Originally the car was Agave with tobacco interior. The current color is not a stock color; it looks a little like mint green. The paintjob was done by the previous owner (PO) and it presents itself very well, but is by no means show quality. There are areas of the car that could use a good buffing to remove excess rubbing compound. The car is remarkably straight. The only dents I noticed are on the front valance. The car has a small 3 inch crack in the upper left corner of the front windshield. The rear tail light lenses are in good shape -- bright and fully functional. All of the waistline chrome trim was replaced with new trim. Interior and Electrics The PO refinished the car with new carpet, Coco mats, and Red Recaros with black piping. The car has a great JVC stereo system with removable faceplate, aux-in, and Ipod hookup. Almost all of the electrics on this car work perfectly. The heater, blower fan, windshield wipers, horn, lights, high beams, interior lamp, and turn signal work fine. The four lamp indicators work perfectly, even the green turn signal indicator. The dash is covered in a plastic, replica 02 dash cover that looks very presentable. The car has 3 VDO gauges in place of the original ashtray and hazard button. The only one that really works is the voltage gauge. The oil pressure gauge does appear to have the correct sender installed, but the reading is always pinned to the max pressure. The trunk is clean. There are some small rust holes in the spare tire well. The car does not have a jack or lugnut wrench. It rained very hard recently and the car did not take on barely any water, except for a small amount of water that got on the passenger seatbelt due to a hole on the top edge of the window. Mechanics Head rebuilt last year by J&F motors in Arlington, VA. Items less than 1 month old: timing chain, oil pump, Weber 32/36 with sync link, starter New within last year: Clutch kit, guibo, driveshaft bearing, shifter bushings The car has a newer fuel pump; the original unit had problems holding a vaccuum. Transmission is a standard 4-speed which shift smoothly. Minor Annoyances The car comes with two sets of keys -- one for the doors and one for the ignition; The door brakes do not work; If the passenger window is fully rolled up you can't open/close the passenger door; There's no key to lock the trunk (the doors lock fine, however); The front seat belts are difficult to adjust.
