Vehicle Detail
Selling my personal driver, 1972 Volvo 1800ES. I've had this beauty for a number of years, I 've always loved them since I first saw one in 1972 or 1973 at a ski resort in Colorado. I've had the car maintained by a local Volvo shop since I've owned it and have done a lot of maintenance myself as a car collector. We had the car repainted, at a professional shop, in 2008, really no body work involved. Car is painted Volvo code 111 as original. The engine was rebuilt in San Francisco at ( aprox) 140,000 miles, clutch at ( aprox) 143,000. We got it from a gentleman in Half Moon Bay, who got it from the original owners in San Francisco. Car has 145,368 miles on it today. Car was bought new in July 22, 1972 in Oakland, CA from Continental Volvo . the original owner and even the salesman are listed in the original owner's manual that is still with the car ! Even the original Dealer Warranty & Maintaince records are with the car ( some) . Has the original luggage leathers in the spare tire area. The Volvo mechanic that has worked on it for the past 6 years said it's one of the strongest B-20 engines he's seen. Work preformed since I've owned it : Had the car painted, paint was faded; rebuilt the fuel injection; new muffler; new chrome trim where needed ( from Volvo);, Replaced a lot of plastic & rubber parts, even on the injectors ; Complete new rear carpet & backseat; rebuilt the fan motor, New engine compartment insulation, replaced any faded lens, new plastic vents in the rear, new cylinders for the rear window from Volvo, new rear view mirror, recharged the AC system, Cocoa mats; replaced all the bulbs that were out; new black grill insert; wheels were pulled sandblasted & painted; new chrome beauty rings; new chrome exhaust pipes (rear) ; rechromed top luggage rack ends; new aluminum front windshield surround trim; yearly oil change and inspection by Volvo shop; New plastic rear outside side vents; new Interstate battery couple years ago; and misc I've probably forgot. Car runs extremely strong and tight. Glass is great. I've driven it at 17 degrees out runs perfect. Overdrive perfect, instruments all work except the clock of course, Seats were redone before I got it, synthetic very respectable looking, dash has cracks so it's covered with a custom dash cover from DASH Designs, looks OK; I have the original owners literature that goes with the car and my record receipts from what we've done that go with the car. I have a good box of extra parts that I'll throw in, some new Volvo rubber parts, lenses, a computer, Volvo radio, cables etc., etc. ( don't ask, I don't know what all is in there but you can have it- have to be shipped with the car, don't want to mail it ) Email me with question, I can answer what I can , I'm a retired back yard mechanic- See photos- that will answer a lot of questions about the general condition. Sad to see it go- The owner. On Nov-20-10 at 09:50:48 PST, seller added the following information: Questions: 1) Rust- No rust except some normal surface rust and little of that. When the car was painted the shop fixed any rust issues ( minor) car was in California most it's life now Colorado. 2) A/C needs charged again.( my guess) It's all there. To be honest I never used it anyway . I'm sure it's an original 1972 dealer installed unit. You can modernize these things, if so inclined, to today's standards. 3) Has the electric overdrive and works great 4) Clutch is very tight and shifts great 5) Paint is still very presentable, was painted in 2008. Shines out new 6) Code 111 is the Volvo paint code, light metallic blue I think my description tells it like it is, photos are fine examples of the car's basic condition. It was a VERY clean car when I bought it in the first place. Runs very strong, is a great car. A very reliable 1800ES. Thanks
