Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1971 Porsche 911E Targa - Color code is 1510 - Irish Green on a black interior A 5sp, numbers matching, 2.2L embodiment of the era's West German engineering perfection . **If you can provide evidence of US Armed Forces service, I will deduct 5% from your winning bid amount. If you are a US Combat Veteran, I will deduct 10%. Another 1% off if that service was in the Army or Marine Corps Infantry.** Please understand what you're bidding on. This is not the base-model 911T. Only 935 Targas were produced in 1971 bearing the 911E identifier. This is a fuel-injected Porsche, and it's an absolute blast to drive. The following is adapted from 911e Registry: "The 911E was designed to be the more comfortable, more drivable model of 911 – fitting between the tamer 911T (Touring) and the high-performance type 911S (Super). The 911E's designation derives from the German word for injection: einspritzung. The mechanical fuel injection "MFI" system used on the 911E (and 911S) was jointly-developed by Bosch and Porsche. It is similar to the injection system used in the Carrera 6 of 1966. In addition to more precise control of the fuel-air mixture and equality of distribution among the cylinders (compared to carburetors), the MFI contributed toward meeting the nascent emissions control regulations of the time. Intended as the luxury model, the 911E came standard (in most markets) with the "comfort" package of features: including ventilated brake discs with aluminum calipers, velor carpeting, a leather-covered steering wheel, heavy bumper rub strips and rubber guard inserts, chrome rocker-panel trim, and gold-colored script on the rear deck (www.911e.org) The Car is Located in South Bend, IN Positives: -Documents dating back to its birth in Germany and its receipt in California all included in sale. Binder contains receipts spanning 4 decades. -Solid mechanicals; good compression on all cylinders and systems operate as they should - Mostly original car; the only major deviation is an a modern Blaupunkt CD/AUX and the exchange of the center mono speaker for a pair of 3.5" Boston Acoustics speakers. - Battery casings and spare tire well in great condition with only small presence of surface oxidation - Boge self-adjusting hydropneumatic front suspension struts are included in sale, but were replaced with Konis - Car is complete, with Original tool bag, Factory Shop Manuals, many extra parts (clutch cables, points, fuel and oil filters) included in sale -Car comes from a family that has loved it for the last 14 years Negatives: - Passenger side door handle doesn't open from the outside. I will include a new Porsche door handle for your replacement. - Paint (single-stage respray in original Irish Green) is about an 8/10 with some blemishes. - The velour carpet is worn in some areas - the Driver's floor pan especially. - The rear sway bar may need to be replaced, see photos for condition - The metal banding on one of the map pockets is coming loose and should be replaced - The speedometer and odometer do not work (but the Tachometer, Fuel and Oil gauges still do). Good faith estimate at 130K miles, though engine was rebuilt in the late 80s. Car has always been garaged and it shows. Please e-mail me with any questions, and I'll be sure to add the responses to this page. A $2,000 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction's end. The balance will be delivered within 7 days by bank wire. I take bidding very seriously. Please don't bid if you don't intend to purchase this car. I am convinced that the winning bidder will be very pleased (as my father and I have been) with this 911E. I encourage you, or your agent, to inspect the vehicle before purchasing. If a personal inspection is impossible, I can arrange to video-conference the car in an effort to help you understand what you're bidding on. It is a truly amazing automobile, and the pictures don't do it justice. There are no warranties for this car, but I'm willing to provide ongoing advice for the novice repairman and refer you to some fantastic resources. I don't expect any major catastrophes, but I can't be expected warranty a 40-year-old car. On Nov-17-10 at 15:43:25 PST, seller added the following information: The engine number is 6211385. Also included in this sale: the "maroon bible" with the original owner's manual and maintenance card; full size matching spare; tuning specifications for the MFI system; and a few other shop books. If you'd like extra pictures, please send me your e-mail address and let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see. I ask that you please read my posted responses below as I'm getting a lot of repeat questions. A DD214 (with your sensitive information blacked out) is a good qualifying document for the discount. Make sure it shows the campaign medal awarded if you're claiming combat veteran status; overseas service by iteself doesn't get the 10%. You'll really have to convince me if you're trying to use Gitmo or the Balkans.
